Octavia Mk2 Vrs rev counter jammed

Hi All,

My dad's rev counter has jammed between 12-15000 rpm, and will not move to zero. Has anyone got any ideas on how quick fix? Or will the car have to back to the dealer as it's still under warranty?

Thanks in advance

Andy

PS I have attached a photo of the rev counter (was taken with the engine switched off). Any input would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like it's your fault for over-revving it.

On a serious note, as it's still under warranty I'd take it to the dealers.

Re: Octavia Mk2 Vrs rev counter jammed

OK, it looks as if the jokes are over!
obviously, you meant to say 1200 - 1500 rpm.
I am no mechanic (as you will see from my suggestion) but if a sharp clout to the top of the dash does not return the needle to zero, then I would take it to the dealer under warranty.
It will be interesting to see what the dealer says is the fault. Please report back in case others have a similar problem.

15000rpm? I'd offer it to the Spyker F1 team as next season's car. They might even win something! LOL

Ditto !

I was going to use the 2-stroke joke; but that's been done already.

One more question, what is the difference between the display in the pic and the maxi DOT display ? Skoda list the maxi DOT as a £120 upgrade, is it worth it ?

Thanks again

Maxidot occupies the full size of the central display, yours is only the top half, and has much better graphics and display. It does things like showing a diagram of the car when you switch off and then which doors are open.

Its really quite neat and sets the dash off a treat.

Absolutely, definitely; particularly if you are able to get a 'free' upgrade if they have to switch your dash pod to cure the rev counter glitch.

l've now seen pic of the maxi DOT and l like it what l see :-), if the dash pod has to come out l'll ask about upgrading l don't mind paying the £120. How do l go about getting the dash pod upgraded without paying for it? Any haggling tips would be welcome lol

I don't think you'll get it as the warranty will only provide like for like.

Re: Octavia Mk2 Vrs rev counter jammed

l'll mention about upgrading to maxi DOT, thats if the dash pods have to come out. I know that a replacemnt will have to be ordered in as it's not an item that a skoda dealer normally holds in stock. I think £120 is reasonable

thanks for the advice stu much appreicated. Also l'm still waiting on word of the owners manual arriving from skoda for Vrs.

Pay the 120 or so for the new Maxidot and take away the uncoded new standard replacement and stick it on ebay.

Not sure about that. The £120 is for Maxidot as a factory fitted option.

You can buy and install it separately though; have a read of this (long) thread for details;- http://www.briskoda.net/forums/group...oup-buy/83277/

Hi just phoned a skoda dealer, and unfortunately the maxi DOT display is a factory fit option only. Will post the results from the dealer regarding the sticking rev counter (future reference purposes)

I think he's wrong; it can be retro fitted; as already mentioned, you can buy and install it separately though; have a read of this (long) thread for details;- http://www.briskoda.net/forums/group...oup-buy/83277/

Re: Octavia Mk2 Vrs rev counter jammed

The rev counter is now fixed, turns out the needle was sticky. The dashpod had to come out and they cleaned out the rev counter mechanism (resembles the working of a watch apparently). The technican said we aren't the first octavia owners to experience this, but we were the 1ST VRS octavia they had done.

All sorted

Andy

Re: Octavia Mk2 Vrs rev counter jammed

no free maxi DOT upgrade, I did phone skoda UK and the woman l spoke(Kerry) said the same as the skoda dealer in Glasgow(Henry's North) @ Kyle St in Glasgow. It is a factory fit option because the maxi DOT is hardwired into the car(linked to various other vehicle components etc). However we can retro fit cruise control no problems .

Thanks again
