Octavia vRS Ride

Hi,

I'm tempted by the vRS Octavia Tdi. I have test driven it and loved it. However, this was on a good road, smooth tarmac and no potholes. Where I live and travel to work is on bad roads, undulating, potholes, etc.
Anyone driving a vRS on these style roads, especially in Ireland?
What is it like, is it rattling, are your teeth rattling?
I have 3 bad discs in my back, should I avoid vRS and get another elegance?

Thanks

A...

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

Having driven an elegance with the sports suspension I would say that it is firmer than a MK I focus, not that helps you much.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

Might be worth considering another Elegance - maybe the 2.0 TDI - and doing some modification (re-map or tuning box etc) to increase the performance to something like that of the vRS.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

The ride is not over firm or harsh on the VRs. Don't see the point of getting 140 TDi and then remapping...

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

I also have a back issue. Ride in vRS is very compiant given car's "sporty" aspirations.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

I guess it also depends what car you currently drive.

I came from a very firm mini cooper S to my 2.0T Vrs and I find it a little too soft if anything, but I've had passengers who've commented on the 'sporty' ride it has.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

I find my petrol vRS too soft in corners and at high speed. Though the ride has the typical harshness of low profile tyres over small bumps, but copes with big bumps well.

Sorry mate, 'fraid not. But I'm a bit out in the sticks here and the roads aren't amazing.

Comfort-wise it compares favourably with my friend's new Civic and is about on a par with the Alfa 159 I just had for a day. Essentially feels like Skoda is aiming more for sports/touring than balls-out GTi. It is a firm ride but absolutely not harsh.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

If you do get a VRS don't get the 18" wheels as the 17" ones are a bit lively over cr*p road surfaces.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

Hi! I'm an Irish owner of a Mk I Octy Vrs, and I always found the ride a bit harsh. After a test drive of the Mk II I was immediately won over, and have ordered one for the new year. The ride is superb. Here in Ireland we have terrible country roads, and in the city we have to contend with the most horrendous speed ramps. The new model glides over them with unbelievable ease. I have a bad back myself, but the new car is really excellent. Go for it! It is an incredible combination of sports car performance and handling, and saloon car comfort of ride.

Re: Octavia vRS Ride

Hey there,

Another Irish member here with a mk2 vRS. The ride is much improved and over speed ramps etc its not as harsh. Also one of these might be beneficial for the back CG-Lock Performance Add-on for your Seat belt

Btw I've sent you a PM
