Octavia vRS, What next?

Anyone of you have put much thought into your next change of car coming from an Octavia vRS?

Been finding myself looking around at other cars on the road lately even though its not even time for a change!

Hypothetically speaking if you had another few quid to spend come car change time what would you get?

Another Octavia vRS or what?

No. It needs to be 4 door, big enough boot and look well. Has to have 17"-18" wheels and sporty styling.

Re: Octavia vRS, What next?

Another vRS for me I think

Furby or Octy, but will depend on:

A) How much money I have
B) Depending if a new Furby vRS appears!

They are on my list for my next car , along with a few other convertibles
It wouldn't be a new one and would be a diesel.

Re: Octavia vRS, What next?

Good timing this thread! For some reason, I've recently found myself contemplating what will be my next car, not sure why, I'm still really enjoying my vRS.
When I bought my current car, I was considering a Mazda 6 MPS, but bottled it in the end due to running cost worries! For my next car I'm looking for:
  • 'Q' car looks - must be much faster than my vRS, but not look it if you know what I mean.
  • 4 door practicality
  • decent boot space for bicycles etc
  • Excellent reliability
  • Great dealer attitude and support
  • Fair running costs (circa 25 - 35mpg or better if possible!)

At the moment, I'd say the 6 MPS would still be a good fit.

Dave.

Thought you could only get the 3.0D in the A5 (aside from the petrol engines)

Re: Octavia vRS, What next?

Suposedly the new Mazda 6 will get the 170 bhp 2.2 diesel peugeot citroen engine next summer. This engine is alot quieter and smoother than the vw version, plus I want a change from vw group cars.

So assuming the 2.2 version does make an appearance, it will probably be a Mazda 6 Mk2 estate TS2 with leather.

I was thinking about a Audi A4 convertible but this is being updated next year so the price will go up, above my band on our company car list.

6 MPS was my other choice but decided on the Saab..........must admit I do regret not buying the 6 when I'm at the 'Ring'.

If it's of any help, the Saab is a much more refined drive than the Octavia vRS, feeling a much classier car. Mine's a 2.0t Vector and performance wise it's similar to the vRS. I have no regrets!!

Biggest problem is having to listen to the 'hairdresser/Vectra' bores. You know, the same type that have issues with the Skoda badge...............water off a ducks back to me though.

Re: Octavia vRS, What next?

I too discounted a 6mps, mainly as there are not many about and I seem to hit on limited production run cars

Currently thinking over a wide spectrum; which makes narrowing it down really hard. Thinking of a few years slow and cost effective in order to go nuts in a few more years thinking something v8 and turbo'd + lots of depreciation benefit

So currently, on the slow and practical side it's a 4x4 of some sorts, l200, navara or roomster/1.9 Octy or into the it might still corner well scale, saab, volvo or Octy Scout.

Just looking at the whole arena and trying to put a house over a car.

Ummm...that model is now out of date and has been superceded. How about the new Citroen C5 with a 208bhp V6 diesel. It's quite a looker too...

I think we'd all like one of those but of course if we could afford it we wouldn't be all be driving round in Skodas would we?

If I was looking now I'd certainly have a good look at the Volvo range, an XC90, S60 or the new V70. All pretty pricey brand new but good value a few years old.

The problem I found with the S60 though is that they're great cruisers but not much of a hoot on the back roads. That put me off last time.

Re: Octavia vRS, What next?

Funny - as I was also looking at the 6 mps. Its Q car qualities and 4wd grip really appealed (like my previous 4x4 1.8t Octy) but it was saloon only! If they had done it in an estate then I'd probably be driving one now in all honesty.

Ill be interested in the soon-to-be-appearing Vauxhall VXR-Diesel range.

Not sure what model though.

OR, the New Mondeo, if they release an ST or RS model

Currently trying to convince mrspp that the family can manage in a Fabia and that 2 seats and 10mpg is perfectly reasonable

Re: Octavia vRS, What next?

Have been considering the exact same thing folks. But I start with a list of requirements and work from there.

Reqs are:
- 5 doors, needs to be practical and have a large boot (2 kids require a lot of "accessories")
- quick - so prob need a turbo
- economical, i like a quick 0-62, but I also like 30+ to the gallon
- safety, again multiple airbags, ABS, 4wd would be nice but not essential etc
- cheap to service/fix/buy !

Just selecting hatchbacks narrows down the field hugely to:
- Octavia RS mk2
- New Mondeo (is there a quick one out yet?)
- Vectra GTS (shudder)
- New Laguna (III ?) Bound to be some quick diesels here - but I had a MkII and it was cursed with suspension issues (broken shocks, alloys, bushes, arms etc).
- A4 Avant in some turbo form?

It's such a pity that Saab stopped doing a hatch in the form of the 93, as thats a cracker. I've driven the Aero version, but it's a heavier car and it feels slower than the RS.
