This is a discussion on Octy 1 vs Octy 2 within the Octavia II forums, part of the Skoda Model Discussion Area category; My Primera GT was built in Sunderland and was pretty good. Apparently Sunderland used to export Primeras to Japan!...

| Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 Yes thats very true.I had a 97 Primera 2.0TDi SLX and that was UK build and was a great car.Faultless right upto 339,000 miles then it got tired.Only ever spent out on service items and nothing else.

In comparison, I haven't had a single thing done under warranty on my Mk2 Octy, except the door seal noise niggle. And the Mk 1 vRS only had a fractured sun visor clip replaced. | |

| Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 imho , the majority of mk1 owners will think theirs is best and vice versa for mk2 owners , they are both good cars with the reveiws they get . I love my mk1 vrs , so thats all that matters , plus i used to have a mk1 escort rs turbo and a mk2 , the mk2 was a much better car than the mk1 , but the mk1 is much more sought after!!! ![]() |

| Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 One thing I've noticed is that regardless of figures stating the mk2 has more space inside than a Mk1, I found my Mk1 Estate's boot to be a much more practical shape that my Mk2 Estate's. Probably down to the more vertical rear end on the Mk1. I preferred that... and so did our dogs!! ![]() |

| Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 The Mk2 boot, with the shelf out and back seats down, is like a truck! But talking about who prefers which, it is also going to be down to personal experience, unless you got the chance to drive a lot of each model. Most people get to use maybe one or two examples of each, as they change cars. If you are unlucky enough to have a duff example of one or other, it is bound to affect your preference. | Briskodian | Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 Think you have about sumed it up there Babs, its human nature to voice complains rather than praise. I personnelly think that like with ANY company selling a product or service, Skoda had a steep moutain to climb to get from where they was to where they are today. This meant (again like in so many cases) that even if there product (in this case the Octy I) for aguements shake scored a 6 out of 10, they would work bl**dy hard to bridge the 4 point gap by giving an excellent warranty backed by solid dealership service. However, the landscape had moved on. The Skoda brand has been raised and so have the sales...and to some extend the product (i.e. in the Octy's case better Golf MkV sourced componets) So Skoda starts to become complacent, production is increased to meet demand hence more what I call 'Friday' cars are made (I know this as I used to work at Toyota!) and because of the climbing sales (and prices) they indirectly create the complacent culture within the dealership network (by not backing them on alot of warrenty claims) which unfortunately is becoming more and more commanplace. | Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 Wow i was going to post a new tread as to" is it worth buying a octy 2 vrs "as my octy 1 vrs has just blown its turbo. I've had electrical problems, doors creaking, suspension problems, bottom arm problems since i got it..i had a plan to get people to rate the octy 2 out of 10 and get the average of peoples thoughts before i thought about investing in another one.. So out of 10 what wuold you give it? |

| Re: Octy 1 vs Octy 2 I read an article in Auto Express saying that Skoda are going to offer the mk1 Octavia for sale again with a price of around 10k or slightly under. I my opinion the mk2 is a better car but it is more complicated and expensive to manufacture. The mk1 is a true peoples car as many happy taxi drivers will tell you. I don't think standards have slipped with the mk2 it is just a case of complicated machinery is always going to be less reliable than simple machinery. I have not felt an urge to swap my mk1 for a mk2 yet. |
