Default Octy 2.0t VRS & Shell Helix Ultra Extra Oil

Well....I've just checked my oil level and it's (ahem) quite low....

Can't find the VX Ultra 5w30 anywhere but can get the 5W30 Ultra Extra....It's vw504.00 compliant - is this OK for this engine? What's the difference between this and the VX???

Any help appreciated

If you have a TFSI engine then 504.00 for one top up ought to be OK; if its a TDI then you need 507.00

have you tried a Skoda dealer? They should have some in stock and IIRC they are really very price competitive on this.

Other than that; the Handbook had the definitive text on what oil to use or not to use.

As an alternative, any of these oils on this list are 507.00/504.00 compliant so will be OK;- http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-i...07-00-a/55476/

Thanks for that - it's the 2.0 TFSI.

I'll put that in for now - I presume this is the longer life oil for variable services really...

If you can't get the Shell then you can use Castrol Edge 5w-30 which is the replacement for SLX II and is VW 504 and 507 as well as being a longlife oil.
You should be able to get that in Halfords.

If your octavia is on longlife servicing ie every 20k as most are now then you need to use castrol slx longlife 5w30 this is what many dealers use however if you are not on longlife servicing quantum pd oil is fine but i would recommend the slx its expensive but quality

My dealer uses Mobil 5w30 ... Well I think they do anyway because they have left me a bottle in the boot of the car after the last 2 services. Should I be worried that no one has mentioned Mobil in this thread ???

That depends on whether you are fixed or variable servicing.

The 2.0TFSI has been reported before as being a bit thirsty with the black stuff, certainly upto 20,000 miles when it seems to settle down a bit. Plenty of threads on here from the past if you can be bothered to hunt them down!

I did have a root around for other posts - but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer.

some dealers sell shell, others mobil, and the car has a sticker under the bonnet suggesting shell. all the official Skoda docs mention 504.00 compliant oil being OK so I've gone with the shell helix ultra for now.

Interestingly - given the very definitive views people have from to another, can you REALLY tell a difference between the different oils? Fuel - yes...Oil? If it's 504.00 - then ????

I paid £7.30 per litre at my local Seat dealer in Bury, tat was for 507 spec oil for a diesel.

VW 504 00/507 00 oils are listed in a 'sticky' in the first thread in this forum. This is it:
