May as well get a new clutch put on at the same time since they already have that area in pieces

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

Had mine replaced yesterday, took garage 7 hours to replace. Had a Fabia TDI 3 cyl 80bhp for the day, a surprising little car, and it sounded cool! That 3 cyl engine sounded real, dare i say it, Sporty! LOL

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

My 05 2.0 tdi has just gone in to the Edinburgh Skoda garage to get checked. Thought I would get my first service done and a new key coded as well so I am looking at about £380 later today when I pick my car up. I have done about 17,000.

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

£380 how much is the key as service should be around the £200 mark

I asked my dealers the other day, mine has not been recalled yet! He mentioned they were doing their first change on a 55 plate!

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

Purchased a new Octavia Ambiente 1.9TDi in July '05. Received no recall letter but flywheel had to be replaced a few months later. Now same car is in garage with what seems to be a faulty engine - diagnosis not yet confirmed. Without warning it lost power and eventually came to a standstill. Had to be towed back to dealer. Not what one expects from a new car. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

This recall for the clutches on 2.0TDI's has been going on for some time. First it was VW's, then SEAT's and now Skoda's, it seems Skoda's are always "tail end charlies". I had mine looked at in the summer of 2006 but fortunately mine was not one of the batch at fault.

My 1.9 TDi registered July '05 is in the garage at the moment for a flywheel. As a result of this it's also having the engine / gearbox mounts and the clutch replaced. They say I'll have to pay for the clutch myself (car has done 34k miles). Does this seem right? The clutch will cost just under £200 inc vat they say. I'm not sure whether to see this as a good thing in that the new clutch should see me to over 100k miles before I need another, thus deffering a load of expensive labour for the sake of £200 now, or should I be annoyed that I'm only getting half the life out of my original clutch?

It also seems like they won't be able to get hold of the clutch kit for at least two weeks!

Question Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

I have had 2x flywheels/clutches fitted in the last 7 weeks and am getting some Sh**y stuff happening in the clutch department again, the car has 60k miles in 17 months.
my findings
  • 1st Violent stalls & murder shudder while crawling on the motorway rush hour 1st gear stop start stuff.
  • 2nd Murder shudder while crawling on the motorway rush hour 1st gear stop start stuff.
  • 3rd Noise from starting and ocasional horendous rubbing/grinding.(dealer cant find the problem it won't do it when the spanner-man is in earshot)
anybody had this?

What is the Rub/grind (poss grearbox?) sounds like a really bad noisy old ford release bearing but the noise is there all the time whether clutch is depressed or not, gets louder with engine revs(sound like a real bag of nuts) then just goes away did another 800mile and yet no noise again.
the warranty is up within the month and my plan is to pester the life out of them till they tie down this problem.

help

You'd like to think so but unfortunately when talking to customer services the word clutch triggers a special 'wear and tear' service item blanket response. Given that the only reason the clutch is being replaced at 34k miles is because of the poor design of the dual mass fly wheel, do you think Skoda should pay for the clutch or at least meet me half way on it? (especially as they can't actually supply the part for over two weeks, leaving my car in bits at the dealers).

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

If the DMF is fault that will have surely damaged the clutch and they should replace the clutch FOC in the warrenty.

Certainly just charging you for the part and no labour shouldn't be a problem as that's was what ford offered.

Re: Octy 2.0TDi Recall - Flywheel

These LUK DMFs are a nightmare! Had to get a new one with my clutch on my Mondeo, cost £600 (for both) from an independent garage, aparently the flywheel itself is almost £300!!! The mechanic reckoned, at 60k, mine was the highest mileage Ford clutch of that type he's seen! They've been having trouble getting the parts as there is so much demand. Called in for a new exhaust the other day and got told some companies are introducing a kit to convert back to a single mass. Asked them to check mine again as I'm still worried by it, it's only done 8k since!
Thinking of replacing the Mondeo with a Skoda (which is why I'm here), my dad's had two Octavia's over the space of 6 yrs & no problems. So it's quite worrying to find this DMF problem here but at least Skoda recalled, Ford have only recalled a few Galaxy's....
(PS. I'm trying to set a new record for exclaimations in my first post!!!)
