Octy II Stream Radio

Took my Octy II 2.0 Pd Elegance Estate in for its first service on Saturday - asked the dealer to look at the dodgy radio reception on FM during the service - they said no problem we will do a software update.

Returned to collect the car 2 hours later only to be told Radio no longer working - software update failed radio completely stopped working.

3 days later after several phone calls and another visit to the dealer we now have a new Stream radio on order.

However they are on back order with no expected date - i also learnt from the dealer yesterday they have another one already on order that was ordered on the 5 May 2006 !.

I am now more disappointed in my Skoda - this is the 4 warranty claim now in 18k and 14 months of use.

1) Turbo hose failure - Car off road for 2 days
2) Rear wash hose disconnected
3) Rear parking Sensor fault - 3 visits to sort out
4) Radio CD not working - 2 visits so far - no known date for replacement

Not at all what i expected

Saddened

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

STREAM radio is manufactured by Visteon, a company that separated from Ford. nothing to do with Skoda, or even with VW.

I really can't understand, what takes weeks to get a replacement STREAM.

Mine did not eject the CD. Local dealer ordered the STREAM, next day it was installed in 20 minutes.

I think stock was withdrawn after the update. Waiting for new stock to come in.

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

Hi,
Does anybody noticed the difference between FM radio and CD sound ? It seems to me that on radio the high frequncyes are missing, but they are O.K. when playing CD-s.
Thanks,
Emil

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

I had some creepy problems with my Stream-radio, loud BANG! for every second. Stopped when I had disconnected radio´s fuse.
At that instant I decided to buy a basic stereo to the car. It cost 100e for replacement parts to get a 1-din stereo to fit and cables, it was one package from dealer.

Bought a Pioneer stereo and was surprised as the radio sounded almost as good as CD. And the sound was a lot better overall(CD-MP3-Radio)!!
There have been a lot of problems with basic Stream-radio with Skoda.

A pic of the mounting of Pioneer: http://users.evtek.fi/~k0101424/Skoda/mankka1.jpg

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

I've got an 06 Octy II as a courtesy car with a stream radio. I found the sound from it amazing, I don't listen to the radio but CD's are great. Perhaps it's the speaker setup in the Ambience model?

I've had quite a few Alpine head units too!

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

I've noticed that there is a difference between FM & CD on mine! CD has far more mid range & base . I wondered if like some of the old VW radios, you could alter these setting for the different source. but doesn't seem to be the case!

Overall sound isn't bad for a factory unit, am eventually planning on replacing it with a double din Kenwood HU with the USB input. That way I can use my Creative Zen! Got to wait a while though!

I'm also not impressed with the FM sound quality but i'm adding a DAB adapter to sort that.

Which one?

I find the Stream FM reception disapointing. Not as good as the Grundig in my Ocky Mk1.

As my wife has gone to school with the child in the car, I can't exactly remember, but doesn't each function on the radio (Radio/Cd/Phone etc.) remember a different tone setting?

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

Hi,
I don't think using a DAB adapter will improve the sound quality, it will only improve the radio reception, because it uses the Stream radio receiver/demodulator. If you can connect this adaptor via an AUX input, then ecerything will be O.K.
Cheers,
Emil

It will be connected via the aux connector as you say. The DAB adapter even has it's own aux input so i can share the aux input into the head unit with my Mstation mp3 player . Connecting a DAB adapter via an FM modulator is defeating the purpose really IMO .

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

You can check if your dodgy reception is caused by lack of signal by HOLDING the MENU button for at least 6 seconds. The display on the radio will indicate the strength of the signal for the station to which you are tuned, along with other information regarding the multiplex signal, rds level, antenna amplification etc. You can sill change staion with the double arrow button.
You can also hold the INFO Button and you will be greeted with a display indicating the VIN number of the car.

I have tried to find the MENU button on my Stream radio but no such luck, all I have is a MODE button but holding it in for 6 seconds does nothing. The INFO button if held for 6 seconds does show the VIN numbers. I would be very interested in the signal strength display as my radio is very poor in the RF section.

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

The menu button on my radio is combined with the control which has the two music notes on it.

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

On the subject of the Stream radio mine has just started to give trouble with the Traffic Report function. Over the last few days the radio cuts in to a traffic report but immediately cuts back to normal radio. It is doing this irrespective of the station broadcasting the TP report so it seems to be radio related rather than broadcaster error.

Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

Had this for months, set needed a firmware upgrade, and I would swear it has been a bigger problem since then!

Will mention it again when it's serviced in a couple of weeks time

.....
I also had the firmware upgrade and felt that the radio was slightly worse after it.

I have just got used to living with it.

I fully agree that CD sound is far better then FM.

Seem as though the audio stages of the Stream are OK while the RF stage is a heap of c**p.

Re: Octy II Stream Radio

I think that the radio memorises a different set of tone settings for each input cd, radio etc....
