| Octy MkII VRS Alarm - any good ?? Just come back from the test drive today and have part x'd the Fabia VRS for a 1 year old Petrol Octy VRS MKII. I noticed from the all of the bumf I have taken away that it has a standard alarm fit however I wondered if this alarm was any good. I assume it has no bells and whistles and simply makes a blaring noise if anyone puts a window through. The reason I have become all security concious is because some toe rag on friday night (the night before I take the Fabia for valuation for Part Ex) ripped off the rear wiper while the car is parked right outside my house. I know no alarm would have probably prevented it but I am now extra concious about security. So, is the standard fit any good or should i be looking after market (I have seen the threads re: which alarms are good but no-one seems to have commented on the standard Skoda one). Cheers ![]() |

| Re: Octy MkII VRS Alarm - any good ?? Alarms are a waste of time. Toe rags just break into your house for keys now. That's what's been going on around here. Best defence? A dog. At home.

| Re: Octy MkII VRS Alarm - any good ?? The factory alarm comes with Tilt & motion which can be disabled prior to arming on the B-pillar (usefull). I read on here I think that the Factory one has a Thatham Cat 1 rating which I think is fairly good. My opion was if not a factory then a Clifford but I heard there was issues with the size of some cable which needed to be connected for the Blackjax feature IIRC, so I went with the factory option. Also they are not the loudest in the world but I think that might be due to legislation on sound so not sure what the aftermarket ones are like. Btw If you go the factory fit just check its working...mine wasn't, an issue with the control module I think, not sure if there was a connection issue but its sorted now. (check...open windows, lock with button, wait 30ish secs then stick your hand in). Lastly, there might not be too many comments regarding the alarm...this being a public site and that ![]() I went through the discussion here, http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-o...=factory+alarm. Also plenty of result with a search.

| Re: Octy MkII VRS Alarm - any good ?? Mine works, which I discovered after locking my Mum in the car!! (Force of habit locking the car you see......just forgot Mum was in it at the time) Didnt appear to be too loud and it took me a few moments to work out it was my car. My Focus didnt have an alarm so that was the first time I have had one to listen to. |

| Re: Octy MkII VRS Alarm - any good ?? reckon it's not so much about sophistication as being LOUD. best deterrent is a second sounder fitted inside the car - most decent ones are loud enough that it's painful to stay in the vehicle. keep meaning to get one of these fitted to the superb - but studies say no-one steals superbs, so haven't got around to it! i liked my old scorpion alarm i had on the corrado - it had a *really loud and irritating* six tone siren that ran the gamut from "whooop wooop" to "eeeek grrrrrrk" and you could tell it was your car a mile off - when it got a window put through i was out of bed and shouting "YOU LITTLE ****S!" within 20 seconds or so...!
