Octy shivers

Noticed this with my TFSI since new.

Sitting in the car with the engine idling every so often the car would give a little shiver. No change in the engine note to hint at a roughness or anything like that.

It's almost like a gust of wind but it's happened in dead calm and wind doesn't give the same sensation.

Not worried about it just curious if mine is the only one.

Re: Octy shivers

I have a 1.6FSI and it does the same. Especially when the engine is warming up.

So you don't have the only "haunted" car

Re: Octy shivers

My old Hyundai accent used to do that, and I think the Diesel Astra after that did too.
Not had it on the Octy though.

Is it the fan kicking in to bring the temperature back down?

Sounds plausible to me but I wonder if the fan has enough kick to make the car move, might do I suppose.

My diesel Octavia does something similar but I think it's more to do with my engine - not the smoothest of power plants that

I suppose that would be a possibility. It's not audible if it is.

Re: Octy shivers

Best thing is to watch the Temp gauge, if the shiver happens when the needle gets to the same point then I would say its the fan kicking in.

Re: Octy shivers

I have also noticed the same thing with my TFSi. It's noticable during start-up (not always though) and some times while idling.

The fan has nothing to do with the shiver. It's too light to vibrate the car.

My guess would be combustion imperfections noticable only because of the otherwise dead-smooth operation of the engine.

Re: Octy shivers

My 2.0TDi does it too when it's warming up.
