Default Recall

I've just received a letter from my dealer (Clock Skoda) that there is an outstanding recall on my vehicle (Octavia Vrs Tdi 07 plate) and that I should contact the aftersales team ASAP.

After having a quick look on the VOSA website - VOSA - Vehicle Recalls
which only came up with the flywheel problem on 1687 cars built between 2004 and 2005.

1, does anyone know of any other problems and,
2, should I be worried about it if it is the flywheel problem?

I'll be contacting them in the morning anyway to sort things out but I always like to be prepared.

Ah, I've not heard anything either, same car as you too. May have to check with the dealer when I chase up my new windscreen.

Could be something as simple as a radio update.

Right - I've just been on the phone to the dealer and they tell me that its the glow-plug relay which needs looking at.

They seemed surprised when I told them that the warning light came on about 8 weeks after I received the vehicle (June 2007-ish) and it had been into them at that time and was changed.

The woman looked it up on their computer and confirmed that it had been done last year but that she would double check just to make sure that everything is OK or if it needed checking again and would ring me back on Monday.

Something of a relief.

Me thinks that inter-departmental communication may need looking at as well as the relay.

I don't think it's a recall but more like a TSB. Many TSB's come out which detail updates to your vehicle but they normally advise the dealer not to contact the owner but to wait for the next workshop visit.

Well they haven't contacted me back about the recall.

I've sent them an E-mail this evening and I'll see what they say about it.

Failing that I'll have a run down at the weekend and have a talk at them in person.

Its not all that suprising, we have quite a few cross overs where cars will have been in for rectification work we replace parts and the defective part then becomes a recall or TSB as Stu says, if your car is effected you get a letter even if the part has been replaced as there isnt really a commnication between the two. The recall notice will get sent out with just a reference number on it, the person who contacts you will probably know little of nothing about what it actually entails. Not only that but I think we as dealers are obligated to still check the car, check the correct parts are fitted and report that fact to the manufacturer, they will have a list of all cars that need to be checked, each one has to be seen regardless.

I think the manufacturer should foot the bill for fuel, and wear and tear having to visit the stealer.

I had a phone message left by my dealer while I was on holiday to say there was a safety recall for my 2006 Octavia II TDI. VOSA only show the flywheel problem which predates my car, but when I phoned the dealers was told there was a software update to cure possible loud bangs from the loudspeakers! (Depending on your musical tastes I suppose you may not notice these??)

I've got mine booked in for the 11th of August which is as early as they can do it - so are a lot of cars affected?

What if you've tweaked your ECU for higher power? Would that get overwritten? (I haven't done this but am just curious to know the answer.)

It won't be a recall. Lots of dealers seem to be actioning these TSB's from ages ago now things have gone quiet, perhaps to raise a little revenue.

Just updating the radio wouldn't remove a remap, they only reprogram the radio.
