Servicing cost

My OctyII 2.0tdi is approaching its first service after 18500miles so I thought I would get a couple of quotes.

Quote 1

Variable service: £208
Fixed Service: £128
inc courtesy car

Quote 2

Variable service: £283
Fixed: £175
+ £15/day for courtesy car

Both main dealers within 30miles of each other. Am I missing something or is that just ridiculous.

I didn't realise it varied so much, got my first one done FOC as a courtesy due to problems with the car when I bought it but they quoted £240,

will have to remember to ring around next time

i think it's really bad that different dealers can charge different amounts for work! shouldn't the price be standardised??

Wings of Peterborough prices for servicing on my old Fabia were extortionate.

I have the 3 years free servicing deal with the Octavia, but after that, I will definately be ringing round.

One of the things I always do is provide my own oil, you might be surprised just how much they charge for it, the last quote was over £45 just for the oil! As long as it is up to spec there is no problem using whatever you want. I have never had any garage refuse to do it or saying that there would be a problem with the warranty.

Regarding the difference in prices, when I had my previous Freelander it was coming up to the cam belt change and out of the two Land Rover dealers nearby one wanted over £100 more plus the job taking two days instead of one.

I use a non-franchise garage unless it is for warranty work these days.

Had mine serviced a few weeks ago at just under 19,000 miles. Cost for 1st variable service was £160 and that included all the parts and labour plus courtesy car. If on variable the oil is £12 a litre as its a special oil used.

1.9tdi on variable @ 19,000 mls cost £239 at Chathams in Edinburgh, oil alone was £45 + VAT!!!!

My first variable service at 18200 miles was 208. This included a dodgy wheel lock nut. And the price of oil on the invoice was 45 quid. ........for oil... :-((

Good oil will set you back about a tenner a litre so that's about right I'd have thought...?

That's what I've found, I have been unable to source oil (the stuff required for variable servicing) any cheaper than Skoda sell it at.

Does anyone know of anywhere (I'm thinking online) that sells at lower prices?....I was unable to find anything.

The only problem buying stuff like oil on the tin-ter-net is postage. too heavy to ship cheap n remember that the car takes over 5ltrs of oil so you would need to buy 2 X 5ltrs so any saving on the price will soon be wiped out on the shipping.

I have used Millers oil for years in several different cars and can usually find it in the local automotive stores. They have lots of different oils for all types of engines. As an example this is one for the VAG PD engine:

The £12.75 quoted above ex VAT means £14.98 including VAT, my local dealer charges £14.02 inc VAT.

Skoda are actually being fair?

That is no good for an Octy II then as that needs 506.1 for variable does it not?

I hadn't looked into that as I would have fixed servicing due to only doing around 8,000 miles. They do one for that engine although not sure how the price compares with the VAG dealers.

I should say that these are the recommended prices and are usually cheaper in the shops.

By driving your car you're feeding a tree and helping the environment.
