Should I have a washer fluid filter?

I've just got a octavia vrs, whilst topping up the washer fluid I noticed there was no mesh filter in the filler neck. My old fabia had one to stop grim getting in whilst topping up, should there be one?

Thanks

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

Not on the Octavia 2 no. It takes so long to fil the bottle as it is due to the nature of the filler neck a filter would make it painfully slow so they didn't bother with it.

However a regular filter will fit.

Cheers.

I'll get the dealer to get me one then, I've got to speak to the dealer about the naff valet job anyway.(supaguard I dont remember asking for. Found half a packet of chewing gum a lighter and various polish/cleaner not removed properly). Thankfully the car makes up for the naff dealer!

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

Oh. I've got a vote for yes there should be and a vote for no there shouldn't. Reading the manual (p262) it mentions a filter in the washer container. Anyone else?

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

Well having PDi'd a lot of new Octavias and serviced a fair few I have never seen one fitted.

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

Sorry! I've just looked and there isn't one! I could have sworn I saw one on our new Octavia; must be remembering the one on the old Fabia or perhaps the brain cells are just wearing out!

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

I can verify i've seen 2 Octavia II's that do NOT have filters on the washer bottle fillers.

As Lummox says it's frustratingly slow filling it up as it is

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

Slighty off topic, should I of had a warning that the fluid was running low? My old fabia vrs would warn me. The first I knew I needed more fluid was when I ran out when I most needed it.

Yes, on the New Octavia (sounds a bit like New labour, doesn't it?) there should be a flashing warning on the Maxidot.... Oh, you do have a Maxidot, don't you...?

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

You should still have an audible warning and a light on the dasboard to indicate that your washer level is low.

Re: Should I have a washer fluid filter?

I've not got one.

Can't see that having a filter will make any difference to how quickly I'll be able to refil the screenwash.

Do I understand correctly, from earlier posts in this thread, that a filter from, say, a Fabia will fit my Octy? If so I'll go and get one.
