Silence is........

.............finally getting your rear tyres replaced.

I believe others have been affected by this on herel.
For the last 2k+ miles my car has sounded horrific between 50 and 70. I thought, like others, that it might be a wheel bearing but after reading comments on here and speaking to Goodyear technical I finally took jthe plunge and replaced my worn, but not wrecked, Eagle F1 GSD-3's with their cousin the Asymetric to match my fronts.

The change in cabin noise is unbelievable. Before my ears would be ringing after a journey but now the road noise is more than bearable.
Grip seems good in the dry but not great in the wet. If they last longer than the GSD-3's then I will be very impresed.

Re: Silence is........

I also noted a big difference when I replaced my rear tyres with Toyo Proxes.

Re: Silence is........

I was thinking about tyre noise whilst driving home tonight and I would say the rear tyres are responsible for a good proportion of the road noise regardless of condition. Logic would say it's the fronts as they are closer.

Nice one.

It is such a shame after the Rugby team efforts.

Re: Silence is........

his tire noise is not the tires, but the crap road surfaces that various governments have put down in an effort to save money.

I have OE Dunlop Sport on my car, very noisy as others have also found.

Now on one of the trunk roads I use fairly frequently they have been replacing the road surface and putting down a good smooth surface not the large stone surfaces of old.

The result is that on those sections the tire noise drops so noticeably that you comment on the fact and the first thing you also do is turn down the radio volume for what ever CD was playing at the time.

We are struggling to solve a tire noise problem, when if the authorities put down a proper road surface we could drive in relative peace. It would also benefit others a great deal more and by that I mean those who live on, or nearby our roads, their lives would improved over night.

This road noise has been brought about by a deliberate action on the part of government to save money, but at the expense of increased noise pollution and a danger to driving safety in many cases.

As usual the motorist is being short changed.

So I'm in for a nice time ahead, just put GSD-3's on mine

Re: Silence is........

The Goodyear Asymetrics won Evo's tyre test a couple of months ago; beating all the usual culprits. Seems like a smart choice.

Remember though that any new tyre should be quieter that a worn one as there is more rubber/tread to flex and deaden the noise.

Re: Silence is........

The explanation from Goodyear technical was something to with the wear and the centre ridge.
Time will tell. Plus you should have the suspension settings checked and changed to the revised figures from 1.45 degrees to 1.25 degrees.

Yes the noise also varies according to the road surface but in my case I had additional noise between 50 and 70 that was irrelevant of the road surface.
