Skoda & common rail

I've seen on spanish forum that Skoda (or whole VAG) is going to introduce Common Rail system in diesel cars. As I have no ideia if that was true maybe someone from this forum could give some more precise news and details.
Thanks

Re: Skoda & common rail

All TDI's with 6 or more cylinders are common rail now, the 2.0 TDI is one of the last units of it's type along with the 1.4TDI, VAG are developing an all new 2 litre common rail unit with a shade over 200PS.

It's most likely down to emission regulations that PD is being dumped.

Enjoy your PD engine because it's probably the last of it's type.

Also it is down to the cost of developing the pd system. As no other car maker is using the pd injectors and helping to develop them further, the relative cost of each unit is relativly high compared to common rail technology. Also the pressures now achieved wih common rail are not too far off a PD system, so it makes commercial sense to use and develop common rail (also the only Audis the used pd had the 1.9 or 2.0l engine, as the the common rail system is considered more refined and smoother.

The next generation of VW diesel engines have been developed with Mercedes-Benz and are caled bluetec. They also use 2 catalytic converters to get rid of the diesel gasses that are noxious, one of which uses urea to aid the conversion to Nitrogen and water. This means that the engines are so clan that hey can be sold all over the US and make them more money.
