Thumbs up Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

Well after nearly 3 years to the day I've finally had to let the vrs go and bought something a little more practical for the new family - another skoda! 4th in a row now but I've left the fabia gang and joined the octy crowd with a new octy II tdi Sport. Here's a few pics of the old and the new.

the fab vrs was a great little car and I'll definately miss it - here after its last wash

I'm well impressed with the sport though and the 2.0 tdi engine. Its really smooth in its power delivery and although I haven't really tested it yet it seems pretty quick - am waiting till I've run it in properly before I give it a proper go though. I find the 17s with the sport suspension to be excellent - yes the ride is a little firmer but the handling more than makes up for it imho. Also the brakes seem good too - my vrs ones never seemed right from new....

Nice choice mate, I'm liking the red

Not seen many on here in red, and don't think I've seen one in that colour on the road?

That's some close parking to the Fiesta though

Very nice, considering that most on here seem to have Race Blue or Black Octy II's so red is a little different

thanks guys. I quite fancied the black magic again but got a good deal on this one and the colour is definately growing on me - I imagine the black looks really good when clean though.

I know will have to be careful or risk SWMBO's wrath! I reckon those parking sensors would be pretty useful though, shame they're not standard.

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

Nice car. I've got the same two weeks ago. I can see yours came with fancy bumpers and rear spoiler. Have you ordered it as an extra or it came like this? Mine is Sport as well, 2.0 TDI like yours but I didn't get exterior options like you. Mine came with Audience, Sound System, Cell phone connections and holder, Leather Electrical Seats, Maxidot, Front and Back Parking Sensors, Multifunctions Steering Wheel... but it's all in interior. On exterior the only thing that makes it different is 17' wheels.
I'm still getting use to a riding a bit firm to me. This is my first "Sport" car. I have had many cars but never with sport suspention. There is a little bit of a road noise as well, but less then in my previous car, that was Toyota Avensis last model 1.8 VVTi Petrol, running on 16' wheels and Bridgestone tyres. My Octy runs on 17' Dunlop SP Sport tyres.
People say they would last not more then 15.000-18.000 miles. Well, they are expensive and if it's true it will be like a half of life os 16' tyres and price is almost double. I hope mines run longer.
Did you have 17' on your Fabia VRS? If yes, how long did they last?
Thanks and I hope we'll both enjoy our new cars.

Cheers

Oh yeah, and one more thing, front and back parking sensors came as standard on mine...
So, I can see there's big differnce on standard equipment between UK and Portugal.
On your photo it looks like you have Xenons but I can't see washers for beams. So, do you have Xenons? Where are the washers? Xenons are ilegal without washers (I think in whole the Europe).

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

no xenons I'm afraid. Mine is bog standard uk spec with no options. This means you get body kit, 17 inch alloys, sport suspension, ESP, TPM, 6 CD changer - iirc the newer UK sports also have a silver sport badge on the side with sport kick plates and proper sport seats with a vrs style 3 spoke steering wheel - however mine has the badges and kick plates but the standard octy ambient seats and steering wheel - maybe why I got it a little cheaper.

My fabia had 16s michelin pitots and the backs lasted an amazing 45,000 miles and we'rent changed when I sold it - the fronts were changed at 30,000 with kumhos which were already on their way out at 45k when I sold it.

Am gonna have a look now out of interest to see how much 225/45/17's cost.

Nice car BTW bosnjo - liking all the options you got....

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

Strange as I did the exact same thing... had a black magic vrs fabia..... then got a red octavia sport.. although I had a golf GTI in between,

BOSNJO, I think you might not have ordered a sport and possibly just the sport suspension / wheels for a normal octy.... what makes a sport a sport is the bodykit..., oh and with regards to the tyres they won't last long at all and I would recommend replacing them with something different like michellins... just my opinion mind you but I certainly can't affford replacing tyres that quickly, I had 4 need replacing after 16,000.

Well, the "Sport" version in Portugal comes with full extras except bodykit. What makes the difference between Sport and Elegance is sport suspention and 17' wheels plus full extras. The rest differ from country to country. In my receipt says "Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI 140 bhp Sport". I've already asked and found out that bodykit in Portugal is only an option.
In my opinion what makes the sport a sport is not a exterior look but behaviour of the car (but that's just me, ex-mechanic and ex-rally pilot).
Also, sport suspention on our Octavias is still far more confortable then real sport suspention used in rally cars. When you compare it, rally car feels like driving it without suspention, I mean with straight connection.

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

I see bosnjo is from Portugal - maybe the sport spec is different there.

Personally i really like the body kit and the exhaust, reminds me of the fab vrs - think you can order the bits from skoda if you want to add them on though.

V nice choice in cars hobnob!

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

Ah I see, My appologies I didn't realise it was not a UK model

Yeah, loved the fabia but it was a little small, the Golf GTI Turbo is just not worth mentioning other than it was a mk4 and I should never have bought it and the octavia is amazing, wished I had xenon's though as SWMBO's Clio 182 makes me jealous... I like the ride and love the looks, I also like the fact that although on paper the octavia is something like 0.1 seconds slower its far smoother than the fabia and far better handling while still being able to fit a dining table and 4 chairs in the boot

Yeah, spec is different. I'd love to have body kit but it's just too expensive. Maybe I'll just buy exaust pipe.
Here is full spec of portuguese Sport:
- Sport suspension
- 17' wheels Pegasus
- Leather seats
- Audience Radio with 6 CD's changer incorporated, all 6 play MP3
- Both front seats electrical with 3 memories
- 12 speakers Sound System with amplifier bellow driver's seat
- Climatronic (but it comes with Elegance also)
- Heated Mirrors
- Heated seats
- Front and back parking sensors with distance display on Audience radio
- Xenon lights with washers
- Auto dimming rear view mirror
- Maxidot (but it comes with Elegance also)
- Phone installation (the one I think I'll take off) with voice command
- Cruise control with memory
- "Comming home" and "Leaving home"
- Puddle light in mirrors
- Anti-theft screws on wheels
- AUX input in jumbo box

That's all I can remember that makes it higher spec then Elegance

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

Well I don't have the xenons or the leather or the electric seats or maxi dot or a jumbo box or the rear view mirror thingy or the coming home lights or the phone installation or the parking sensors

Loosing out on all of that for the sake of a body kit is not great... love the body kit don't get me wrong but the options you have if the car is the same price as a sport here outweight the bodykit in my opinion

Yeah, I thought the same. I'd love to have bodykit but wouldn't change all I have just for that.

My stealer told me that there's no running in now and to open her up as soon as she's warm. Is this right?

thanks Mike

and to 130bhp, you know I'm not really sure about running in - the manual recommends no full throttle and < 3500 revs iirc for the first 1000km however I've heard lots of differing views on this. I tend to play it safe and stick to the manual in case of any warranty issues (I belive the ecu records this sort of thing now), plus with the tdi you can still make rapid progress using the low down torque.

Re: Sold the fabia vrs and bought an Octy II Sport

It would be good to see what the difference in prices are between what a Sport Octy is in the UK and in Portugal.

The sport spec in Portugal almost sounds like UK L&K spec.

Thats a very nice sec indeed.

Much easier to fit the bodykit as an after market jot as opposed to fitting interior electrical goodies. Ive just been quoted £475.00 for rear parking sensors / £375 for cruise control and nearly £700 for the three spoke steering wheel. Imagine the cost of fitting all that kit you have, and some of it is probably not possible.

IIRC The Sport bodykit worked out around £1500 inc fitting and painting over here.

As said be interesting to see the price difference.

I think it's impossible to compare the prices as Portugal is the country with highest new vehicle tax in Europe, so that way we have the most expensive cars. But let's try. Mine was end price 33.200 euros with discount for being in stock vehicle. End price marked before discount was 36.000 euros. New VW Golf 1.6 FSI end price is 31.000 euros, Toyota Avensis 1.8 VVTi (petrol) is 32.000 euros, Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance is 33.100 euros. So, maybe the best to compare it is between Elegance and Sport. Elegance 33.100 and Sport 36.000. Al prices are end prices, with all taxes included and for cars with metalic paint. Does it help?
By the way, Elegance here comes with rear parking sensors and auto dimming rear view mirror.
