| Sorry to say... Well I hate to admit it my Octy TDi has won the battle of wits. I've had a number of problems since I brought the car last year. Water leaks, rattles and buzzes by the dozen, the interior mirror fell off TWICE, a noisy exhaust, which the dealer put down to 'the cold weather!!! Creaky door seals and loud wind noise, (not me the car) So I took the motor out for a run today and managed to trade it in for a Honda Civic i-vtec 1.8 ES. Shame really, the Octy was my fourth Skoda and I've never really had any issues with the others. I'll still keep an eye on Briskoda though, and who knows maybe "I'll be back" Bye |

| Re: Sorry to say... Sounds like you had a real bad experience with your motor mate. Judging by the comments on here and my own experiences, it's the exception rather than the rule with these cars thankfully but good luck with the new motor anyway.

| Briskodian | Re: Sorry to say... Interesting to hear of yur door problem. I am also driven demented by doors which creak at moderate speeds. The car has been back to the dealer three times for new seals with no appreciable improvement. May eventually follow you out of the Skoda camp. Greatly disappointed. |

But the grass is always greener. There's no point in changing, losing a shed load of money, and getting another problematic car. JD

| Briskodian | Re: Sorry to say... Since I'm considering the purchase of a new Octavia 1.9, this is worrying news for me, particularly as I've noticed other comments about problems with the model. Unless Skoda keeps up the VW quality reputation their sales will suffer. Certainly I am going to wait a bit now - possibly until early next year. Pity. |

| Re: Sorry to say... I have a 2.0TDi Elegance on order, being built this week It's true there are lots of posts with people with problems, but by our nature we always shout about the problems and just enjoy the good times. In the big scheme of things I still think Skoda have a great product and have no regrets in ordering one. Local Merc dealers had a new S class parked outside a couple of weeks ago with a huge placard on the roof saying "Bad Car, Bad Service think before you buy" in 1ft high letters, pity my camera was at home. |

| Re: Sorry to say... Hoping my 06 fabia vRS will be delivered soon, allthough a little concerned re wrinkly seats, stuttering engines, dodgy abs, etc etc etc. Could be worse tho could have bought an italian or french car At least I know it won't have been sat in a field for six months!

| Briskodian | Re: Sorry to say... These forums will always show up problems; people like to sound off, but my Octy 2 has covered over 50k in 18 months, with no leaks, rattles or dodgy trim. I've has no electrical problems or strange noises. The warranty items so far have been 1. MAF; a common bosch item failure, not just Skoda, 2. EGR valve, again acommon problem in vag diesel engines as they get clogged up ,and 3 the flywheel recall which again isn't Skoda's fault ; the whole VAG group has been hit by the faulty component from a well known clutch manufacture. The car is fast, comfortable, relaxing (and fun) to drive for long periods and returns 45mpg with fast motorway/cross country driving. My personal preference is to always buy an ex-dem or nearly new as any warranty issues will have been sorted and the car may come with some 'goodies' already fitted. The Octavia is a very good car; just read a few reviews in the motoring press, so don't be put off by a few owners with problem cars End of Sermon.........

| Re: Sorry to say... Think how many new shape Octavias are out on the roads right now, the complaints you hear about are a very small percentage of cars. You are more likely to hear about a door that rattles than one that doesn't! I've seen loads of posts on here about problematic Octavia II's but I am still really looking forward to getting mine, not long now, maybe as little as a week! My current Octaiva has done nearly 95,000 mostly punishing miles with nothing more severe than a rattle behing the dash somewhere.

| Re: Sorry to say... Very true - the actual percentage of complaints must be tiny compared with numbers sold - remember that AutoExpress owners' survey - Octy second only to Honda S2000 in owner SATISFACTION - that ain't bad! |

| Re: Sorry to say... Bear in mind the survey refers to the mk.1 Octavia which has been around for a good few years now(97'/'98?) and has had plenty of time to have wrinkles ironed out of the car in the form of facelifts and the like. The common concensus of opinion is the general quality of VAG cars (excluding Audi maybe) has dropped a tad (Mk.5 golf and new Passat for example). As a consequence of Skoda delving in the VAG parts bin for most bits , some of that TINY quality drop must be passed on to the Mk.2 Octy. I for one felt the rotary dials on the 2Zone climatronic felt a little cheap. I was expecting softer touch plastic on those, or am I expecting too much?
