'Stream' stereo - difficult loading CDs

Hi all,

Just got my new Octavia, but I'm having problems loading a CD into the 'Stream' head unit in the dash.

Is it me, or is there an art to it?! I insert a CD about halfway, and it hits a stop. At this point, most CD players just drag the CD in. But on this one, I can hear the motor kicking in, and after a few seconds it comes up with 'CD ERROR' on the display. If I apply some pressure to the CD while the motor is whirring, it'll sometimes drag it in , and then it plays fine. But it's really hit and miss as to whether I can get that to happen or not.

Maybe it's meant to be like that?! Perhaps I just haven't got used to it yet.....

Cheers.

Re: 'Stream' stereo - difficult loading CDs

It might need getting used to; I noticed the same thing, but having said that, I haven't had any problems getting a disc in, it just seems to need a little bit more force than I expect to give it. It seems to make a difference if the HU is switched on. Although it switches on when it detects you inserting a disc, I'd recommend you switch it on first.

You could pop back to the dealer and ask to try inserting CDs in a different car.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it does seem wrong applying force to the CD, I've never come across a player or drive that requires you to do that (and it specifically says not to in the manual!) Still, it's the only way to get it to work (and then only sometimes).

Good idea, when I'm passing the dealer, I might pop in and mention it to them, and try a CD in one of their cars. At least I can determine whether it's just me being stupid!

Re: 'Stream' stereo - difficult loading CDs

I wonder if there's any adjustment in the mechanism? I say this because I found it difficult too when I first got the car, then had the stereo replaced for an unrelated problem, and found the new one to be much smoother at inserting CDs. I agree with rurwin - see if you can go try a couple of others in the dealer to find out for sure..

Re: 'Stream' stereo - difficult loading CDs

Just went out and tried mine - not actually used it before - and it does seem to need a little prod, more than anything I can remember using. Will be interested in your tests at the dealers.

Re: 'Stream' stereo - difficult loading CDs

Thanks for the replies people! I've just been playing with it again. I think I'm getting the hang of it. It just needs a reasonably firm push to get it to go in, even more so than I was pushing it before. Seems to work every time now. Maybe I was just being too 'careful' before. It just seems wrong, having to push a CD that firmly into a front loading drive like that. Hope I'm not going to damage anything. I guess as others have said here, maybe I've just got a particularly stiff one (oo-er!) I might still try the dealer next time I'm passing.

On the other hand, I've just tried the CD changer in the boot for the first time, and that works perfectly, CD's just slide in perfectly normally.
