Superchips Discount available

Hi Guys, having had my previous car: VW Golf V 1.9 TDI Superchipped, I want to do the same with the VRs. I had no problems with the superchip and I like the company so I will stick with them rather then go for the Jabba GB. If I can get a few together they may do me a better price, but at the moment we can have 15% discount. They said they will also customise the map for me as I dont want the crazy low end torque as traction is already a problem.

new Octy II(newer gen engines) £599 - 15% approx £510
old engine (octy 1,fabia) 1.9tdi 1.8 t available at 499-15% approx £425

I intend to get this done soon, but if anyone else is interested let me know and we can get a better deal.

Regards Rich

Re: Superchips Discount available

I am already very pleased with off-the-shelf SuperChips re-map for PD170 (have you actually tried what you describe as the "crazy" low end torque map?)

They do have demo VAG motors at most SC centres.

Plus they were kind enough to oblige with 15% discount back in July aswell.

Re: Superchips Discount available

Hey Rich I am contemplating getting my Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi (103bhp) done by superchips. Can I ask you what the results were like with your old Golf, was it the 103/5bhp engine that you had done and if so what bhp did they get out of it?

Regards,

Mark

Re: Superchips Discount available

Hi Mark, yes the change to the 105 is great, it makes very little difference low down the map which is good for economy as it remained very good. But the real benefit is higher up I found in my old car the woosh of torque was short lived and overtaking was an issue -everything felt good until I actually overtake and the power delivery tailed off. But with the superchip it was like a petrol, and more lke the drivability of my VRs - not quite as fast. I didnt have it on the the rolling road as I didnt feel the need, on the road I could gain on a 2.0 140 when the chances arose. In a fabia it will be even better then the golf, with power to weight ratio. I must ask my mate who has a fabia VRs too.....

Oh VRS195 did the KandN help, did you have before the Superchip?

Re: Superchips Discount available

Thanks for that info Rich. Yeah you are right there is a 200kg + weight difference between the golf and the mk 2 fabia so the difference should be even more noticeable, so taking on 2.0tdi 140's should not be a problem!

In regards to the discount I would like to participate but my car is still on factory order and I think I will run it in a bit first. Hope you find plenty of willing participators for the discount as superchips are always a safe bet.

Re: Superchips Discount available

No problems with my map done by p-torque. Quite a bit cheaper too.

Has it made much difference - performance and economy? Can you put the extra power down ok?

Performance is much better. It's a bit tricky getting the power down in 2nd, but you get used to it. Other than that, everything feels well balanced and smooth.

Ecomony is about the same, if slightly better.

I beg your pardon for jumping in,
any fitting instructions for the superchips available?
TIA

Stefano

Thats very polite of you, normally people just add their reply

There aren't any fitting instructions as it is not actually a chip (the 1980s was big on resoldered chips in ECUs, hence their name, a bit like CarPhoneWarehouse - doesn't make much sense now)

The remapper (SuperChips, AMD, REVO, P-Torque etc) nowadays upload a new fuel map to the OEM ECU memory (adding to or replacing old fuel map) via the vehicle's diagnostic port normally used by the dealer service dept to interogate the engine when serviced.

In new VAG cars this tends to be behind a panel in the dash, on Golf MK IVs they were behind a panel above the front ashtray.

So not a DIY job then?

I had my Omega 2.5 TD 'chipped' in 2002 by Van-Aaken; they soldered in a new cradle for the chip into the ECU and then fitted their own (remapped) chip and gave me the OEM chip back that was then available to be swapped over if need be.

When I had my Fabia 1.4mpi done in 2005, BBR-GTi (Morego, these days) had to take the ECU out of the car (no diagnostic port) but then 'remapped' it from a Laptop computer.

As VRS195 says; most tuning these days is by remap.
