SWMBO's Grannie for Christmas

Just before Christmas, I drove SWMBO down to Grannie's house to collect her, and take her to the Outlaws', from whence she would begin a 2 week family hopping, before being deposited home by some Aunt or other. 2 queries...

1) On the way, I hit a pheasant. I won't go into the argument with SWMBO ("you shouldn't have hit it, you're driving too fast" etc... - I wasn't!), but its popped my nearside headlight out of alignment. Only slightly, and there's no damage to the glass, or the surrounding paintwork. A few times over the last few weeks, I 've been flashed by oncoming traffic, but if anything, the headlight now points more towards the nearside. I had a quick fettle, and its definitely loose, but then so is the other one.

Question is...have I broken a little plastic clip somewhere, or should it just 'pop' back into place with a little more force? I don't want to get the stealer to look at it, coz the Lease Company will call it 'Accident Damage' and charge me £50 excess. But, if its knackered, I don't want to leave it for the next 3-3.5 years til I change the car (which I might then buy). Any ideas?

2) When Grannie (finally) made it home from Aunty whoever, she couldn't find her house keys. Had she left them in my Octy? Well, I've been all over the car, under the seats, in the storage compartments, and can't see/feel anything. Is there anywhere a small bunch of keys could hide that I may not have looked?

What about asking the dealer to check the alignment as you think it's not right. No need to go into the whys and hows?

Thanks, that's not a bad idea. Had thought of leaving it to the next service, but that's 17k+ away.

Might be worth sliding the headlamp unit in and out again, and make sure everything is fully tightened.

Have a look at the first few pics in my headlight bulb changing guide - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/techn...-change/69565/

Damn Pheasants, a real pain.

I hit one on a driving course on the Roman road into Stockbridge a few years ago, at a legal 140 mph (Police Driving Course), took out the bumper and nearside fog light of the 2 litre toymotor I was driving.

btw, I never lifted, well not until we got to Stockbridge anyway!!

You may be getting flashed if your lights are wobbling as you drive?

Re: SWMBO's Grannie for Christmas

Thanks Andy, very useful! I'll give that a try if I ever find time during daylight hours.

Good thinking Billy, hopefully Andy's idea will cure any wobble. Or at least confirm whether its foobar'd...
