Maps are quite common now, Star had one out for a "drive" on Saturday, goes quite well I hear.

Re: Tuning vRS 2

evo has an article about a tuned MKV golf gti this month (issue 089). BBR /Gti engineering are quoting ST£1000 for a remap and exhaust. Reliable 252bhp and 269 lb ft of torque are the figures being quoted. BBR are calling the car the Morego 250.

Re: Tuning vRS 2

Star had one in for OBD2 remap, 252bhp, can't remember the torque. Many maps available from Germany at 60% of the UK cost.

Misread you there. Thought it said a Montego 250!

I am inclined to agree, but the Golf platform and set up on the Skoda, and obviously the Golf, but I haven't driven that, seems more than capable of easily taking extra power. My view personally, is that 200 bhp, isnt quite enough.

Saab draw the line at 250 bhp, and they pretty much invented the turbocharged fwd saloon car.

No - don't know about 250 bhp, but 231 bhp can be fun. You just have to make use of the manual traction control

Re: Tuning vRS 2

well i've driven a mkv gti and it had no trouble putting down the 200bhp so i don't think it will struggle as much/more than a 230bhp mk1vrs

I'm inclined to agree that 250bhp isgetting to, if not above the limit for FWD, if a lot of the car is also not modified, ie brakes, suspension, bushes, mounts, links, clutch, etc.

Many GTi Owners (another forum I am a member of) rave about getting 250hp, 260hp and some even as high as 270hp, but fail to realise that the exponentially reduce the life of the stock VW components when you up the BHP.

The VW 4 pot, 2.0L T is good for a whole lot of BHP - you just need to ensure that you upgrade all the other bits as well, otherwise cracked, split, worn, mushed parts will soon start to show.

I know this will happen as the above parts on stock GTis seem to be failing far too early and thats with 197bhp!! Also, don't forget anyone getting a 250hp upgrade isn't about to pootle about like Miss Daisy, and will in reality drive it hard given the opportunity, which again will simply reduce stock components to rubble in quick time.

Re: Tuning vRS 2

I am probably gonna buy new octy rs soon and I'm already thinking about doing generic remap(custom not available here) for 240 bhp so i was wondering if it would be ok with fwd.

Re: Tuning vRS 2

the std chassis will be fine with 250-260 but at and beyond that you will need susp and brake upgrades.. and LSD will defo help with 280+

fwd cars can take 300-350 if set up right. they wont be shopping car easy to drive but then neither is a 350hp rwd car either.
