tyre pressures

Is it normal for the dealer to check the tyre pressures when the car goes in for warranty work or servicing and if so is it normal for the tyres pressures to be adjusted as if for 5 occupants and a full load?

I've just checked my tyre pressures and they were set for full load rather than the 2.1 bar front and 2.0 bar rear which per the fuel cap is for 2 occupants and a small piece of luggage which would have been the case as they went to the garage (it only me or one other + shopping most of the time).

I've noticed this before on checking tyres after the car has come back from warranty work. Nice of the them to check the tyre pressures but why, why set them for maximum load - the norm must be 2 occupants plus the odd bit of luggage.

Also on adjusting the tyre pressures I wonder if they remembered to reset the tyre pressure monitor button.

Re: tyre pressures

On tyres I'm Mr. Paranoid - I don't trust anyone except my own gauge. For the 30 seconds it takes, I go around the tyres every weekend, with them cold, and adjust them to 2.2 bar as recommended for partial loads for my model.

Re: tyre pressures

I wonder if this might be a Skoda directive because when I had my headlights adjusted shortly after collecting my car (they were too high) they re-adjusted the headlights for me (for free) and then set the manual adjuster on the dash to "full load" , to further lower the beam!

Re: tyre pressures

Checked the tyre pressures on my vRS for the first time this weekend and found it strange that the label on the fuel filler cap states, for 225/40 18s, 2.0bar front and 2.1 bar rear (for normal load).

I expected the fronts to be higher than the rears as that is where the higher proportion of the car's weight is, particularly with the TDI engine.

Any suggestions?

Re: tyre pressures

More adhesion for the wheels doing the steering and driving? Just a thought!
