Ferodo DS 2500s work really well, they certainly do NOT fade; see post above for part no.

So what we need to confirm is what type of brakes ar fitted to the OP's Octavia 1.9. I was under the impression they were FSIII brakes and not ATE.

@Octygone - See told you you would go for 312mm fronts

The pads in the 288mm and 312mm callipers (both ATE) are the same.

If the 1.9 has the 280mm FS III callipers you will struggle to get performance pads for it. If it is this set up have a look for pads for a MK I Elegance 110TDI as it had these pads and there were a few upgraded pads around.

You can get the EBC red for it, but while i think they are great it does seem a fair few on here hate them. I'm still good after 10k on them though

If you wanted to get the items sibart took of his car you would need new hubs but otherwise that is it.

If you are running on 288mm brakes (ATE) I have the pads that came out of mine when I went up to 312mm that you are more than welcome to (assuming yours are not OEM) as mine are.

I have to say I really didn't think the 288mm was up to stopping the Octy II as I had some major ARRGGHHH NOT STOPPING moments including the sensation of teflon brakes you describe.

Stopping fine then suddenly you're not any more and on teflon.

I got the brake fluid changed (car was 18 months old) and it was fine again for a while. When is started being a bit silly again I got some bigger brakes.

Worth mentioning the tyres too as cr*p tyres won't help.

Bahnstormer has linked to my 312mm thread with the info on, but I'll confirm the 312mm is a massive improvement over the normal 288 discs

EDIT, just checked, if you were willing to try EBC they do OEM grade, green (I would avoid these) and red in both the 280mm FS III or the 288/312mm ATE calliper fittings.

I like the EBC reds, but some people on here (many) hate them.

I got mine from Larkspeed.

The part number is available on the 312mm octy II conversion thread of mine that bahnstormer linked to above.

What I will say is that if you are going to do lots of track rather than fast road use I'd either go for the Yellow or DS2500.

People on here who have tracked the things quite hard really don't like them.

On the road, with some quite heavy use on OEM discs they have worked very well for me.

I'm also thinking about going for the EBC Red stuff, when my 1st set of OEM pads get replaced at the next service. Are these doofers definately a bit better than the OEM pads, and are the OEM discs not going to dissolve under them?

Also, is it normally just a pair of fronts that you would replace first, and leave the OEMs on the rear, or is it advised to replace the pads all round to the same make?

Next, are replacement, road legal brake pads considered a mod, if the rest of the brake setup remains the same and you just replace like for 'like' (as it's just a set of consumeables) when one set wears out?

Oh yeah, and how much would a set of OEM skoda pads costs vs. redstuff?

They OEM discs won't fall apart as the reds are not hard on the discs and don't dust up IMHO. Also I think they are much better than OEM and they have the same 0.5 friction co-efficient that the DS2500. Some people on here seem to say they break up, but I personally have not seen this on mine. I will say I think they are definitely a fast road pad not a regular track pad.

I have put better pads in the front only. What you must not do is put much better pads in the rear and less good pads up front IMHO.

I declared to my insurance but it cost zero. I would personally check with yours that after market pads are ok

sure they will be as the reds are E marked IIRC.

OEM equivalents from GSF etc - about £35
EBC reds from - about £60
OEM from dealer - about £85

These are averages.
