Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Hello fellow Briskodians,

As you have guessed by now, due to lack of posting I am not in the UK.

Well, where I am its 32c outside with clear blue sky. This cybercafe is just 100yds from the beach in Fuengirola, Spain.

We landed in Gibraltar on Friday afternoon and after one night in La Linea we drove to where we are actually staying in Nerja. Todays trip here is to visit friends who live here.

For the next 2 weeks I have the joys of an Opel Astra 1.7CDTI to drive around in. Quiet a pleasent drive actually, once you get used to the stupid indicators. I have yet to work out how the cruise control works though.

Well thats all for now, I will most proberbly not post now till the weekend when we move to another location that has wireless internet, and I can use my own laptop.

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Still here, at the beach today at a place called Matalascanas, a beach used mainly by spanish holiday makers. No english people here at all, unlike yesterdays trip.

Yesterday we drove across the border into Portugal and spent the day on the Algarve. Albufrerer (spelling?) couldnt be more british. Looked round the shops, got pestered by timeshare sellers then had lunch and drove the 3hrs back into spain.

We are currently staying in Hinojos a small spanish town between Seville and Huelva, part of the Parque Donaña, a large nature reserve. Only problem is that because no brits are around the evening meal cant be eaten before 10.30pm as nothing is open.

Oops, almost forgot. In Seville on Monday, the temp was 39c and that was just to hot with no breeze.

I've been to Nerja It was still very spanish when I went, but still lively. The little coves are fantastic, and the big main beach Burriana or something is where I missed out on going parascending we left it to the last day and they weren't doing it because the sea was too choppy

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Nearly time to come home.

Just here in Gibraltar now, checking out the airport facilities before returning to spain again for one more night.

Sitting in the airport bar now, with a John Smiths bitter using this pc. Its very odd, having a pint in 30c + temps with clear blue sky.

Will soon be back home though, although I am not sure what the weather is like in luton.

Don't worry Mannyo, you'll find it's pretty much the same here - well except for the torrential downpours, hailstones etc

Glad you survived Seville BTW. A friend reckons that the heat is fair devasting even in the cooler months. Did they have John Smiths in Spain? Just wondering if you had an ulterior motive for popping over to Gibraltar

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Nope, no John Smiths in Spain. The reason for the airport visit was to check the left luggage facility, as I have to return the hired astra tomorrow morning and we dont fly till late and we didnt fancy lugging 2 weeks worth of luggage around gibraltar.

I am using my laptop now, but this hotel uses telefonica as its ISP using prepaid cards for the wireless connection at 5 euros per hour.

Just had our evening meal and have returned to my room with free minibar to checkout briskoda.

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Back on Gib now, just checking out prices on various bits and bobs including laptops.

Currently the XBOX360 base pack is £189 here and the PSP giga pack with 1GB card and a game is currently around £199.

Xbox360 games are at the most £44.99

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Hi, Manny,
We've spent some time in Nerja -nice place! We also went to the town on the Spanish/Portugese border which was quite interesting -not a tourist to be seen!
We're also planning a return to Spain in 2007 for our silver wedding anniversary -we want to go to some of the Paradors around Andalucia, including Granada, which we've had to book already!
I really need to brush up my Spanish (from almost non-existent to pidgin!)

Probably a bit late, but any chance of bringing a few tubs of Italian ice cream back at preferential price?

Safe journey

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

@ phil, the town where we stayed had a bar that we later found out that the owner was dutch and spoke better english than spanish, so it goes to show that you can get by with just a little spanish. Just get to know the key phrases and make sure you can navigate a spanish menu as you wont get an english one.

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Airport is a bit small, but not to bad.

When we came in here 2 weeks ago, the kids on the plane thought we were going to land on the water. Then you get a sense of being important as you look out the plane window and see the road closed to allow the plane to land. Today they are taking off towards Algeciras (west) so once off the ground its a very tight banked turn whilst climing as soon as you leave the ground.

I assume you've had the opportunity to use it as a road as well.

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Just done a calculation, and during the 2500kms I drove the astra diesel it averaged 53 MPG, not bad considering most of it was around town.

The main journeys were,

La Linea - Nerja
Nerja to various other locations in/around Malaga.
Then, Nerja to Hinojos
Hinojos to other areas around it including portugal.
Then Hinojos to La Linea Yesterday.

Diesel in spain is 0.96€ a litre currently, 1€ a litre in portugal and much less here on gib.

Unleaded 95 here on gib is 58P litre for BP.

Re: Greetings from Hot and Sunny.......

Ooh, Nerja...

Last holiday (end of April, seems like ages ago) was a week in a villa overlooking Burriana beach. Just the right mix of locals, Spanish visitors and non-Spanish visitors to make the place intreresting without being too daunting. The seafood/paella restaurants along the beachfront were brilliant!
