Homepage Hijack

Been trying to make my computer more protected from bugs lately but still can't sort one pesky problem

My IE homepage is meant to be msn.co.uk, but everytime i load up the program it resets this and loads some annoying page called searchweb which lists links to various sites and some adult pages etc

Please help me take back control!

Try downloading and installing Microshaft's free AntiSpyware.

It has a homepage recovery feature.

I've been using it since they launched and it seems ok. Wasn't coded by them though

AdAware will usually get rid of that particular one. Just make sure to update the data file before you scan, the free version doesn't seem to offer to do it automatically.

Seconded. But keep IE just incase you need to go to the Odeon website. It only seems to work with IE!!!! So much for making browser friendly pages.

Adaware should detect the irritating program that reset your homepage.

having just spent a week trying to get rid of one of these peices of 'malware', and ending up reformatting the machine, If youre not going the firefox route, I'd say the minimum level of protection would be -

good antivirus (AVG free)
good firewall (zonealarm)
decent anti-spyware - Adaware, SpywareBlaster and SpybotSearchandDestroy (all 3, not just one of the three)

run full checks as each is installed, and keep them updated !

Will do.

I got my friend to help me t'other day while hes home from uni (doing computer science) and the first time i ran adaware was a BIG eyeopener. Had many rogue dialers, tracking cookies and trojan wotsits on my computer

Unfortunately it was a little late as the phonebill had £40 of mysterious premium calls last month. Called them about it and they blocked all calls to premium numbers from my line.

If anyone is using AOL and a little box asks them to click to reconnect to the internet dont do it! It might not be the official one

My computer will soon be like fort knox
