| Re: I'm wireless! Well I finally got mine sorted on Saturday morning and it worked faultlessly until 10:00 last night and then fell over never to be reconnected again. Tried this morning and the same again so checked the router etc. and all the settings etc. seemed OK... so turned the router off and on again and will try again this evening. Just a thought though - the laptop battery was probably not far off giving up (albeit it was all still working OK) so could it have been that that caused the drop-out and failure to reconnect?

| Re: I'm wireless! Hmm - just did a search on this one and found that it's probably the router that's S**t - D-Link DI 624...

| Re: I'm wireless! Mark, have you checked to see if there's a firmware update available for your router from the D-Link support website? Low laptop battery is unlikely to be the culprit. It's never presented me with any problems.... Steve |

| Re: I'm wireless! Steve, Yep I've just checked and there are a couple so I've downloaded them and will get it updated. I've also read around a bit and it would appear to be a common problem with a few potential solutions that include: 1) Increasing the power supply voltage from 5v to 6v 2) Turning off D-Links proprietary "turbo" speed increasing software 3) Disabling various facilities like gaming potential etc. 4) Changing the wireless channel to try and prevent iterference from DECT phones etc. So basically I've got it up and running again and have done all of the above and it appeared to be stable last night...

. Still, as you say, it's nice to not have wires dangling around. I have this fantasy that the weather is actually going to reflect it still being summer and I can have coffee outside in the garden whilst browsing the internet.

| Re: I'm wireless! Fingers crossed; often a case of getting it setup in the optimum location. As you say, avoiding interference from DECT phone base stations is also quite a common one in most homes. Also how many wireless devices are running within range, and competing for space. Changing to a different channel can often make all the difference to both signal strength and quality. Also, proximity of the antennae to radiators and microwave ovens can also prove troublesome ![]() Steve |
