if they want to live here they can learn english, they can eat english food and they can go to ******* english schools and learn english

I work in a school, and all of the foreign students (Portuguese, Polish, Latvian, Russian, to name a few) try their best with their English...and with a few, their english is actually better than some of our fully English students.

As for people having to learn foreign languages...it is a bit too far imo. For this, their should be a "foreign national" in the company that could act as a translator...or be used to deal with people who dont have English as a first language

I can see where your coming from, the Poles have always been a problem though haven't they... I mean what about all those bloody scroungers who came over in WWII and gave their lives for this country in the Battle of Britain........

All the Poles who have come over to my neck of the woods do not appear to be benefit scroungers at all (quite a few dentisits in their numbers), in fact they're filling the roles bone idle Brits don't want to do as they can sit around in there council houses all day watching their plasma screen TV's thanks at the expense of the tax payer

The usual immigrant bashing continues......all immigrants are bad, taking jobs, not learning the language, living off the state, causing crime etc. etc. etc.

To balance the argument, some immigrants speak better English than most English natives, often 2 or 3 languages, are as well qualified as any English person, are proud to say work harder than their English colleagues and was recruited to this country for these skills.

Pays as much tax as the English, often more in fact, conscientiously tries to contribute to society BUT having the status of immigrant.....Well is the root of all evil on the UK.

Remember immigrant covers a lot of people....

I get confused with all the immigrant issues. I can understand that people want to make a better lives for themselves in England, and I feel blessed to have been born and 'brung up' in this country...

But surely it would be more productive if they were in there own country working to make it a better place rather than being in UK? I don't doubt that SOME of them do pay taxes etc, but lets be honest SOME don't. Wouldn't there taxes be better spent in there own struggling under developed coutry rather than straining our public services to the limits?

The UK does very nicely out of all the people that come here to work , and they do better as the wages over here are better than in eastern europe.

So? They are in a small minority and there's plenty more English people who have been doing this all their lives.

They pay exactly the same taxes as you do when you are working , so contribute just as much to the NHS and so on. Yes , there is more expense for public services but also proportionately more income.

Oh , and don't forget that the NHS and other public services are full of Polish dentists , doctors , nurses that I'd very glad are here

I would say the dole scrounger or as I like to call them them the "parasite class" be they immigrant or native citizen are equally culpable. If you are fit and able but do not contribute to society, get off your lazy butt and get working. Simple. Why should my taxes be diverted to pay for your cigarettes and Ibiza holidays ?

an assumption being made that their country of origin is under developed, that all depends on your point of view, not all immigrants come from the third world.

1. I think it's over the top to expect British nationals to learn another language just because there's a far higher percentage of them here than used to be.

2. All Polish people I have come across (bar none, and I have met a fair few) seem to be pleasant, hard working and motivated to do a good job for often not very much money. Far better attitudes than a lot of 'complacent' British people IMO

3. I wish newspapers like the Daily Mail and the Sun were hauled over the coals for their behaviour. So many people are presented daily with racist, right wing propaganda which is reported as fact, not opinion. Largely thanks to the media, this country is going to the dogs.

4. For all you people on this thread who have been interchanging 'England' with 'UK,' shame on you. There are 3 other parts to the UK as well you know.

whoa, hang on there!

i have no problem with people coming over here and working, honest people that are simply trying to make a life for themselves but what i dislike is this country is always changing to make life easier for everyone else and doing nothing for people like myself and the majority of the "natives" that go to work, pay taxes and try to do teh right thing. i am pretty sure if i went over to deli(simply for example) and demanded that they taught officials english, demanded that they taught me in english in their schooling system and constantly tried to turn it into my home country i don't think i would get very far yet this country always goes out of its way to make things easier for everyone else

You said 'when you are working' is that aimed at me in any way because it has in the past taken me a while to get a job? Never have I claimed from the state in any way. Yes Polish worker are coming over here and working, but why can't they stay in their own coutry and work to improve it there?

if we go to their country we have to learn their language and their way of life. we also have to respect their religion and customs. how ever they come here and we build them a place of worship, get everyone to learn their language, pay them benefits, give them a house and make all uk born citizens wait many many years for the same thing which they eventually dont get as their isnt enough to go round. aaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
