Landscape Gardening

As some of you may have gathered I sold my Lotus to fund our Garden Landscape.

Just wondering if anyone has had theirs done lately and do you think you were getting your pants pulled down??

We had a quote from a very well respected local company which I expected to be quite expensive, but not as much as it was!! So as a comparison we had a quote from a smaller outfit to do the same job and it came out more expensive. Given the hard times for all I have managed to kick the first guy in the nuts a bit on the price but for the size of our garden and the limited amount of work required I think it's very expensive.

To be honest the selling of the Elise wasn't an issue, I never really 'bonded' with it so wasn't too sad to see it go.

Re: Landscape Gardening

If you look for "gardeners" you might find they're cheaper than "landscapers", but just as competent at doing what you require. Landscapers generally seem to be marketing themselves to people who want to say they've "been landscaped", and so will price themselves accordingly...

Re: Landscape Gardening

One idea is just to ask for quotes for piecemeal work against your own predetermined plan and maybe have improvements done over a time period rather than all in one go. I've fallen for having the whole thing re-done in one go, mainly cos you get to the end of your tether and say "I just want it done!". Then, of course, anything you try to argue on price about always comes back to bite you as "Well, don't forget we're also doing that, that and that...." and you just say, "OK, just do it." Big mistake - as another said, step back and think or be a sucker

Obviously get more than one quote - most companies (big or small) will assess how much wealth they think you have from what they can see (e.g. house, car) and price accordingly. The trick is find the right price for the work being done, allowing for quality of materials and quality of work. My recommendation is always to go and have a chat with people in your location (even supermarket etc). E.g. "Nice to have a beer in the garden, isn't it? I was thinking of having mine redone.......... " Or just go and knock on doors of ones you like. Peeps don't usually object to your praising their accomplishments

In truth though, if you are expecting to grow things, it's worth having a chat ith the garden centre re soil composition, location etc as expensive things planted straight from pots do, er, actually need to be able to grow in your soil and location of planting... Join a gardening board forum if that's the case methinks

Sorry for the ramble, but I wish I could have back some of the money I've spent "optimistically" for some things. I'd be holding a Brisky meet at my mansion if I'd got some things right first time. We live and learn...

Regards
Mo

Re: Landscape Gardening

Stu. Personally, I think you are just being lazy . Theres not a doubt in my mind that you could get stuck in and do most if not all of the work yourself

Having said that, I don't blame you for signing the cheque either.
