Question SRAM stuff - FAO Bandit1

I'm a big fan of gripshift stuff and with my impending frame replacement I thought I'd go back to SRAM rather than the Shimano stuff I currently have.

Picked what I want, went to select a dealer on their website and guess what, it doesn't work Well, it could just be me and my browser but it won't list any UK dealers.

Any ideas of somewhere in the South West that will take my money off me? Or could you do me a reasonable deal on an upgrade kit (shifters, cassette, mechs and chain)

TIA

I hate gripshift with a passion I'm afraid!

Never been able to find anything better for me than the good old finger/thumb rapid shifter. But like cars, everyone has their own preferences.

I hate Shimano, but their kit is good. However being slightly old school, I prefer shifters that are a doddle to use, reliable and basic. I therefore still use thumbshifters (Suntour XC Pro) which happily work with 8 speed. (If you need to ask what are thumbshifters..then your too young.) i
Iwould also swap to disc brakes as well..if the forks and frame take them.

Ps, if you want mail order stuff, we find Chain Reaction to be very well priced, and very quick at getting the gear out to you.

pps..are you building a fresh bike up? If so whats doing with the Klein?

Do they just strap on the fork leg? I have a horrid feeling the forks need a "disc brake" fitting - not convinced my PACE forks have them, but then I like v-brakes a lot so don't care too much. What makes disc brakes so much is the hub rebuild / new rim

There are 2 types of disc mount Jason, post mount and international disc mount (if memory serves correct), and I,m not aware older (or even newer) Pace forks have either (anyway..dont they have the brake mounts on the opposite ie downtube side?)
As for the cost of disc brakes, ok if your buying the whole shebang new then its a little more but the long term running costs are cheaper and the braking efficiency has no comparrison, V,s dont even come anywhere near close.

Can't argue against that. Why do most modern cars use them now...

I guess I'm just used to Vs, and not experienced better yet.

Grip shift are ace for changing gears whilst you go over the bars!!!

I had grip shift on my xc bike but rapid fires on the DH bike as I found it easier to change gear whilst braking with the rapid fires.

Andy, re disc brakes; in the dry I reckon a set of decent V brakes will stop you quicker. In the wet? Discs every time.

Yep, looking at an Orange P7 or Evo 4 or possibly the steel Marin frame. Don't feel the need for full suss.

I prefer grip shift as it is more "tweekable" if the gear doesn't engage cleanly so it is more tolerant of setup, cable stretch and general hamfistedness (is that a real word?).

Ta for that Jane, was obviously just my work's browser or maybe it wasn't working when I posted.

Disc brakes EVERY time, over V brakes..... IMO anyway. once they are set up properly they never need touching again (other than new pads!). no need to worry bout bending your wheels either with discs!

As for Gripshift - again everytime! if nothing else its something less dangling off your bars to hit trees / walls / other bikers etc!

I've always found Merlin (Ormskirk) very good, and Wiggle (mail order) are good too!
