Too much doom and gloom going on, can't afford a proper summer hol so having to make do with visiting the in laws this year

I think I'll manage (see attachment) Off to Crete pretty soon. Whereabouts are you going/been to this year?

I'm having two summer hols this year, one was the briskoda camping trip and in 6 weeks tomorrow I'm going on holiday back to the lake district to stay in a cottage.

Been to crete three years ago what a cracking place, where about in crete are you going mate??

I want another holiday. A longer one to do nothing and relax. 6 weeks and counting. Just back from a long weekend off and I don't feel like I was off. Think cos it was so short a time I had off.

swmbo is from a town called Ierapetra which is on the South East coast of Crete. Quite a few tourists down there (Mostly German/French with a few Brits) but mostly its a town for locals. Very nice, very 'chilled', its where we got married last summer. Other places I could recommend on Crete are Agios Nicolas (North East coast) and Chania (North West coast). Never been to Hersonissos/Malia as swmbo avoids them like the plague

Being a sun worshipper, she can't stand UK summers so there's no chance of holidaying here and even less chance of getting her to go camping, lol.

malia is a bit club 18-30 but I heard it's getting pulled at the end of this season from somebody who goes there quite a lot.

When I was sober Malia seemed to be a cracking wee place people were very friendly. Would defo go back again but not as club 18-30!

We had a week in a nice cottage in Norfolk at the beginning of June, then we're heading down to the south of France in September, where SWMBO has relatives who own a camp site with some posh mobile homes. I can't wait.
Then (and I know it's not a summer holiday, but i don't care!) we're already booked for skiing in Austria in February

i did a week in may with sinister and minitext, the weekend camp with sinister and we all doing a week in august and thats it. its all day trips in auguest, just like may so probably just the same amount spent to a decent holiday. however if the weather is rather rubbish we can stay in for the day and save money too.

This is a pic of our thermometer that we left out on the patio last July in Limassol! It got past 48c and then freaked out and stopped at about 52c. we spent most of the holiday in the pool!

So far, I've had a week in guernsey, 3 days in Paris, a week in Brittany combined wth another week in Guernsey.

hopefully going to have a week scuba diving in Egypt in November, and maybe a few days somewhere else around september time.

The thought of a ring trip/euro tour is great but my car is, er, below track spec and although I'd love to drive down to Greece one time, I don't have long enough holidays to do it properly

One forum member has a blog type website for his roadtrips - I think its JamesRothwell. If you're reading James, how come you didn't get to Athens?

Going away twice this summer [AFAIK]; Brisky camping trip at the end of this month, then in August I'm off to Fort William, up Ben Nevis and stuff like that. Then in October I'm away again down in the Peak District [I used to live ~20 miles away from it so it will be interesting to go on holiday there].

And maybe a few other long weekends here and there, yet to be decided upon.
