Thumbs up a taste sensation!!

some of the older and wiser here will probably already know of it but for the uneducated around if you have some stale bread break it up, stick it in a cup with some milk and bang it in the microwave for a minute. then take it out and add a little sugar(1 tea spoon should be enough) and another minute gets you an awesome taste sensation! its a bit like horlics but with solids

on the back of this and subsequent conversation i now have a bread and butter pudding cooking

Re: a taste sensation!!

Mmmm, but you need a hot oven, some nutmeg and sultanas to make it perfect. Also don't forget to butter the bread.

Ever tried making bread pudding?

Cover a ripped apart loaf of bread with half and half milk/water, leave for an hour ....squeeze out most of the liquid by hand put the bread in a bowl and 1oz of butter/marg add dried fruit (sultanas, cherries etc) and a bit of almond essence mix together and level out iand push down nto a baking tray......gas mark 5 for about an hour ....nice hot and very nice cold as well

Re: a taste sensation!!

Of course, I am far too young to remember anything like that, but hubby tells me he used to have this and it was called "pobbys" I think, DISGUSTING

oh and there were no microwaves on those days so he probably just poured hot milk over bread, uuuurrrghhh!

Re: a taste sensation!!

I made a Christmas cake this weekend, had the fruit soaking in brandy overnight and finished off the cake this evening - its been cooking slowly for some 3 hours now, should be done by half 10 this evening.
