Question Too many cameras!

I've just heard a snippet on radio Yokel down here.

Apparently Alastair Darling, (Ironic surname, eh? ) THE transport secretary, has said publicly that there are too many speed cameras in the UK. And the majority are not in areas considered accident blackspots, but in areas which generate the biggest revenues for the police. I thought it was quite interesting to see someone from the government agree with things we've all been saying for some time!

Anyone got any other info about this news story, as I only heard a brief news summary about it?

Yep. 165 camers likely to be removed ... sited only at accident blackspots ... only applies to Scotland ... at least 4 collisions resulting in death or serious injury needed to site a camera.

Shame about the "only in Scotland" bit (it's a decision made by the Scottish Executive), especially as, of the 5000 cameras in Britain, only 500 are in Scotland at the moment anyway!

I think they will be more likely to remove doctors from posts where they are not overworked. Sort of follows the same line of thinking used for removing cameras...

At least they are removing some, where i live they seem to be sprouting like trees, with the mobile cameras around at weekends hidden from view. The only grace is that everyone in the area is wise to the locations.

Thank God for devolution, if it get's rid of some Speed Camera's it's a good start ! I could help them name more than a few they can take down in Scotland if they want to...

Maybe they can replace a few of the speed cameras with red light camera's as I am fed up nearly getting T-boned at traffic lights.

That would be too much of a safety thing, and not much revenue generated though.

I think all traffic lights should have a camera, in all directions.
