| The beemer test was hardly fair... 535 vs 535D would have been better. Ah well. I want a RAGE buggy please, oh, and an 800bhp off roader thing that drives on water....

I think the speed limit came into force a few months ago (much to the disgust of the water-skiers and speed boaters).

it was a joke FFS chill out will you. its that fabia vRS drivers always go on about torque and the 535D had more torque but less power than the petrol one but got beaten. do you always react to people like that?

| <skipping mode on>hmm torque</end skipping mode, resume read of interesting bits> 800 bhp - sounds quick 535 should beat 535D due to usable rev range and similar output, less heavy too ![]() When is the repeat on for this, I found myself enjoying yet another weekend at the office... 9-5 my @rs* more like 7-7-7 ![]() Now for the next mod suggestion - how about Jason (dev) fitting an 800 bhp engine in his PD100 <Backspace,Backspace,Backspace> PD130 <Backspace,Backspace,Backspace> PDxxx and turn it into a '800' ![]()

, you make it sound like 800bhp is a common figure for cars on London roads ![]() And what have I been telling you guys for so long about diesel versus petrol? Huh? Yeah, the 535d IS a quick diesel, but it's petroleum equivalent will always be quicker, for the exact reasons you just gave. Diesel will never have the capabilities of a petrol in performance on a track, simply because of the low rev range it will always have given the fact that diesel burns MUCH more slowly than petroleum.

| People drive like it's a common thing in London - To me a car with that kinda power sounds like it would be a 'twitchy beast', hardly useable That said I may have a go if offered the opportunity ![]()

| But did anyone notice that Clarkson said the Beemer was the first diesel car they'd ever had on their track? He must have forgotten about the Fabia/Cooper race.

| Briskodian | How about skimming over Loch Ness? Then if they sank they wouldn't be swallowing what they were on the quads, at least if they themselves didn't get swallowed first ![]() The programme did answer how they those do those rather exotic spins in Dubai - i.e. get the road closed, but I don't know if I could get our High Street closed so I could get to the supermarket in about 30 seconds, just so's I could queue at the checkout for 20 mins ![]() ![]() Mo |

| @Mil How is a 4.5 v8 the equivalent of a 3.5 diesel? The 3.0 Bmw would have been more of an equivalent, and is identical performance wise to the diesel. But that wouldnt have suited Clarksons hatred of diesel power, so he had to get the bigger engined car, driven by a racing driver whom he didnt have a hope of catching anyway. A wholly unfair comparison in my view. At the end of the day, poeple who buy diesels are mainly high mileage drivers who are looking for economy and long engine life. I cant see that someone would be stood in the BMW dealers umming and aarrghing over which one to have, the 545 or the 535d. I drive a diesel simply because I like them, not because I believe them to be better in any way than a petrol. I like the torque and economy combined with the performance gained from a remap. I also like petrol cars, such as the Octy, just for sheer enjoyment and the sound of high revs etc. @Bengie - No i don't always react like that, only when someone posts a truly pathetic post. Just couldn't see why 2 BMWs had any link to "Fabia Drivers" whatsoever. You only do it to get a rise, and you got one. Posting afterwards saying you were joking seemed a bit lame to me aswell. How would you take to Octavia Estate drivers constantly being referred to in derogatory ways just because you only have 150bhp and a torque deficiancy? Eventually it would hack you off.

| shifty you are a bit touchy, if you read back then you will find that i am usually of a comedy nature and would take things like that with a pinch of salt. 150bhp i hear you cry!!! not me sir! probably not much less torque than you either ![]() if you we're to look back through my posts from way back you would see that i have alwya s taken the piddle out of myself before anyone else and don't get wound up about digs at estate's as i have more to worry about in life. if you we're to look back or talk to the people that sat on the briskoda stand about what i say about my car then may hear words like tractor/van/barge etc being used as i actually have a sense of humour. and again the only reason i mentioned the BMW's was to show that more torque doesn't mean faster, they chose those two cars because the petrol one had more power but the diesel had more torque which sits with what happens on hear with reagards the 2 vRS's that are on the market. bit of advice, take a step back, have a chill pill and lighten up. all your going to gain by going on the offensive all the time is enemies. ![]()
