Re: Tractor GTI......?

Thought it was a bit fake with the branches moving fast... then it went just as quick when a bloke was walking normally in shot.

Pretty darn fast, although that JCB all track thing only went round the TG track about 50 seconds slower than the reasonably priced car.

It's Ford's contribution to the tractor market sometime around the late 50s/ early 60s. Picture of one here.

I think the tractor in the video may have been a Ferguson of about the same age.

I wonder which components they modified (apart from the engine and gearbox, I guess). Things like the axle and clutch in a tractor can cope with a fair amount of torque, but the brakes and steering would need serious attention to go at that speed.

As for suspension... do tractors of that sort of age even have any?

I've heard about that stuff before. I wonder how much shaft horsepower those gas turbine powered ones are putting out??? Must be helicopter or boat engines though......

Speaking of Gas turbines......

On the road at 16. But you take a fairly simple tractor test. Well, at least a mate of mine did. Then he passed his driving test aged 17 and about 3 days.

It used to be from age 13 off-road, and you could drive a tractor on the road from 16 with the appropriate driving licence (in the UK, anyway). Not sure if it's still true though.

Edit: Just seen Devonutopia's post - I did a tractor test at 16 too - and yes it was a fairly simple test. Few years ago now though..
