Just got back from a trip away with my Octavia vRS (standard except for 225/45 Goodyear F1 GSD3 tyres all round - can't afford the mods yet ).

Drove to Prague via the Harz region in central Germany (never seen so many Octavias in one place before!), and back via the Nurburgring.

The car was brilliant - fast enough to keep up with all but the maddest of Autobahn users (clocked 154 mph, and the I gave up before the car did ). Comfortable for 6 hours at a time.

The ring was fantastic - better than I thought it would be. Got on on Sunday evening (part of the open weekend) - no queueing, just straight on no fuss. Did two laps (all my frayed nerves would take). First lap was quite cautious (I've driven the track hundreds of times in computer games but it still felt completely new) but on the second lap I was ringing the car out (although still slow through corners).

Tyres and brakes held on no problem (if anything were better by the end), although the car felt a little bit breathless at times despite running Shell VPower fuel (100 RON!!) - I put this down to an air temperature of 28 deg and a track temperature much higher.

Over all fantastic trip (all 2800 miles) and got engaged to my gf too!
