truckers in go slow

Have just seen on the local news that truckers are planning a go-slow on the main A30 in Cornwall on Saturday. That will please all the holiday makers trying to get home after the Whit week break!Ive got to travel from Redruth to Launceston on Saturday morning, so i think ill give the A30 a miss. Imust also add that i totally support them and although it may cause some upset, i think the majority of people will be right behind them (literally )One last point, there is now an unmarked dark blue BMW WJ 55 *** patroling the A30 between Bodmin and Launceston to add to the volvo estate and the silver vrs

Re: truckers in go slow

Not sure that slowing holiday makers is the best way to win support, unless of course they are all French holiday makers but yes totally agree something needs doing. If it is the oil/ petrol suppliers being greedy buggers then blokading the supply is defiinately the way to go, if their imposed rises is justifiable then the government really needs to look at taxing the final user on the first xxp at the pumps, rather than effectively doubling every rise the suppliers make with tax.

Re: truckers in go slow

And as I said somewhere else on here ......they are protesting about the fuel they can't afford by wasting it going slow and nowhere.....so they can afford it then ....what are they protesting about.

The other thing is, not one person they will be affecting will be able to do anything about the price

Panic buying and shortages here we come.

Until it reaches breaking point and a pint of milk costs over a £1, nothing will change and Brown will keep his job.

Didn't Eddie Stobart make fairly significant profits last year?

Eddie stobart now make more money off their merchandise than they do off actually delivering stuff...

Re: truckers in go slow

I drive a Truck and went form Wakefield to Melton Mowbray to Wakefield last night with a full load of 44t, filled up back at the yard 190l I know we dont pay the pump price but imagine if we did like some owner drivers. There are stories of some firms running at a loss on 5 laods before making money on the 6th.

As for Eddie Stobart he will make profit he could make £1 profit per truck per day due to the size of his fleet, so he can absorb the fuel increase, but for how long?

Once the hauliers can not run at a profit the costs will be passed on to the consumer! Everything will increase

Rant over I thank you

- and incidentally, do you think that the truckers will slow down the holidaymakers or the other way about? My experience suggests this to be an exercise in futility, because the traffic will be so slow no-one will notice!

Re: truckers in go slow

What a fantastic sight yesterday as hundreds of trucks , vans and cars joined the fuel protest in Cornwall on the A30. It was great to see the amount of support for this protest, with people hanging banners from bridges and crowds gathering along the road to show their support.Next time they should do it in London ,Birmingham and Manchester and you watch the people turn out in force. This a**hole government want us all to use public transport and leave our cars at home .Thats all well and good in the city, but you try getting a bus from Redruth to Bodmin at 5 am in the morningThese t***ers in Whitehall are not living in the real world and to make things worse, ive just been told im in FUEL POVERTY ( where 10% or more of your wages are spent on fuel). Rant over.

If you pay attention to your highway code you will find they have no choice but to go slow during the week too. 40mph on single carrageways, 50 on duals and 60 (if not restricted to56mph) on motorways.

But still its the likes of you who slate the lorry drivers who dont understand that the foreign drivers are taking our work and what work we can get has to absorb the rise in fuel costs which are passed to you in all manner like your weekly shop at the supermarket.

Re: truckers in go slow

Since the price of fuel went from 97p to £1.20 the government is collecting an extra 4p a litre .....the rest (19p) is from the retailers and sellers of the fuel and they are responsible for the 4p tax rise not the government .....now if they droppped the tax by 4p then this would not affect anything but any more than that then they would have to recoup the tax from somewhere else (income tax or a rise in vat) the fuel is this high because that is what the producers are charging for it not a hike in tax .......
So what is the point of a go slow apart from wasting the fuel they say they can't afford ...I don't get it ...if you want to hurt the people who put the prices up then use less fuel, drive economically and you will be amazed at what you will save, plan journeys and if they are not necessary then stay put ....if they end up with a glut of fuel and the price may go down .....but don't bet on it, get used to the fact that the price is going to carry on rising and will get much much higher when the fuel hits peak oil, thats not running out of fuel just that we will be using more of it than the world can produce ....supply and demand will take over...then the skys the limit ...£10 a litre anyone

Rubbish!!!

It is quite simple, the goverment are taking around 70% of the price of fuel as TAX!!

Why not tax things that are do not help the country to keep moving (Fuel on trucks, Vans and cars) Why not tax such as Cigrettes or Alcohol! They are not helping the country to run!

Just my 2P's worth!!!

Most of the tax is set at so many pence per litre and this hasn't gone up the only extra tax they collect is from the VAT element and that adds up to about 4p a litre its the producers that have put the price up

Try looking at the FACTS.

Duty is set at a fixed level (50.5p a litre) , and over the last 6 months it hasn't changed.

The price rises are entirely down to the oil companies and the increased cost of oil.

And why should the French get British DSS cash?

Lets face it, with fuel poverty rising rapidly, many people are now better off on the dole. And with companies shift to poland etc to save cash, pretty soon we all will be!
