Wait For It....... Wait For It......

I thought I would start a thread for the real night owls amongst us. I think the only rule should be that nobody is allowed to post until after 01:00hrs and then only till the sun comes up. A sort of mini chat room for lycanthropes, vampires, insomniacs and people with no lives, like me. Anyway this posting should be the only one allowed until 1am hopefully. If I’m honest, I’ve always wanted to be the ‘only poster in the forum’, but there always seems to be somebody lurking. So night night until 01:00hrs guys……. oh and the first person to post after 1am, owns the thread for the day (bit like being the first to touch a cairn in the morning, on a mountain)

Re: Wait For It....... Wait For It......

Well it’s the witching hour (well for these purposes) and I thought I’d try and make the first posting. Doesn’t seem to be many people on here tonight, but if you are, why not drop in and leave a line, possibly saying why you are up at this strange hour. I’m up because I’m a night owl and tend to work long days with very late finishes. This week I seem to have no work (self employed) so I’m falling into the dreaded drinking wine into the small hours, reading and Briskodising (is that a verb?) followed by going to bed around 03:00 and not getting up till 10:00-10:30hrs. Any of you guys do something similar? Are most of you single that stay up late? Just interested in what makes us 'friends of the dark tick'.

I hadn’t thought of that problem, but I was thinking of GMT 0200hrs. Of course it makes sense that you would be up. I think the wine is dulling my blunted senses even further….

Nope it’s gone 2 so the bar is now open. I think we should begin with the line ‘’hello I’m **********(insert name) and I’m an Insomniac’’ Why are you up so late Teflon Tom?

Re: Wait For It....... Wait For It......

Hi, At work is my reason for being awake. Finish at 8am although now the clocks are back an hour I'm not sure when sunrise is! Been working shifts for about 4 years now but due to start a new job when I hope I can escape working at night!

Good luck finding some work. Christmas round the corner. Need money to keep the wheels turning.

Thanks. I work very sporadically as I work mainly in live TV. The work at this time of year tends to be at the weekends (Football) but the summer is frantic (100 hour+ weeks and generally the money is good) and keeps me afloat until next year. Sadly this means I will probably be working Christmas and New Year (Telly companies don’t pay any extra overtime etc to freelance staff, but when I worked for the Beeb they only paid £50 extra for working a 12 hour day on Christmas day itself) what’s your new job?

Amanda

I often lose track of threads somewhat with the 13 hour time difference! But it's amazing how many people post late at night UK time.

Hello Teflon Tom and welcome to the Insomniacs self support group. I often work with theatre staff so I can imagine the hours you work and I also know that you will almost certainly be underpaid, considering that you will no doubt do Lighting, Sound, Effects and general maintenance as well as loads of other stuff (follow spot?)

It's 15:30 - we're 13 hours ahead in NZ

My wife and I, two cats and an Octy vRS moved out to NZ from Leeds, arriving on November 1st last year

It's nice here!

Working in TV always seemed to be glamourous to me but sounds like long hours.
I'm changing from working for a Telecommunications company to IT services that I hope will be slightly more secure. As I said, changing from shift work to normal daytime hours appeals and will hopefully be less disruptive for family life. That is if I can get used to waking up in the morning...

The thing I hate about working in theatres is when I have to go up a ladder which starts in a box and then goes out into and over the audience, supported only by a make shift bit of scaffolding at the top end with a few lights on it. I always dread the ladder will slip back (the guys who foot the ladder are sometimes muppets), or moves sideways. I‘m sure you know what I mean.

I didn't know that laser sights were in use....shows how much I know
