| BRISKODA Staff | what to get? With the impending new arrival to our family I have started to think that may be we need an MPV type vehicle (no....not a Picasso, Ian). This would replace SWMBO's Toyota Yaris. Previa/Sharlaxayambra too big, insurance relatively expensive although the thought of the 130PD and a trip up to Jabba was at the forefront of my thoughts. Scenics/Corolla Verso too small. Zafira....it's a Vauxhall (SWMBO's words). Honda Stream....interesting engine but ugly and space not that good. VW Touran too expensive. So that kind of leaves the Avensis Verso......ok it's not a looker or the greatest performer but it does what it's say on the tin. Talking to SWMBO and she says "so, we'll have to get rid of your car then, for a smaller one, seeing as mine will be the main family car!" "No!" I reply....rather quickly and leave it at that. Got me thinking though, if I had to sell my Octy ( ) what would I get. My initials thought were the Furby RS......50MPG, 180+BHP (after mandatory trip to Jabba although the AmD One-CLick sounds interesting). So hypothetically speaking what should I get? Cheers. Adrian.

| If it has to be one of these Toyota Verso's go fot the D4D engine as Toyota are MOD FRIENDLY.. They sell as Van Aakken performance boxes as approved accsessories, so not warrenty breaking needed. Apert from that, it has to be the Furby vRS if you can wait that long doen't it, Especially after seeing those two fine examples at the pre christmas meet.

| We tested a Zafira a couple of years ago & all I would say is dont discount it without trying it, it is quite a good drive. Also if you personally import it can come as an Opel so maybe swmbo wont think its a Vauxhall & you will save money. The new Focus based Ford mini mpv is also getting good reviews.

| Before you get to attached to the idea of a verso anything from toyota try one, and especially sit in the back!! I have a Yaris Verso in my fleet at the mobility center and most drivers and esp. back seat passengers hate it! The speedo's are the LCD type and are offset so you have to look down and left to see it . Back seat passengers have a very upright seating position, its like sitting in a bolt upright position. Very uncomfortable. Not sure about the avensis but have heard similar gripes. I personally would look at the MPV based on the sharan family. They are very solid and last ages, the conversion companies love then for these reasons. Apparantly the best of them is the Seat...... Oh and get a Furby for yourself as it will stop you having to run the kids about as it will be too small, so no baby sick on your seats !!!

| Yep, that would probably be the case. I guess the way round it is to look at cars, or MPV's with an NCAP rating of 5 stars plus. Or in the US they all drive 6 litre SUV's instead. |

| How many offspring will you have? I have three little uns and the octy copes more than fine! You go round in circles looking at MPV's - there are some nice ones but nothing that sets your pulse racing. 7 seat estates scare me, from a an accident perspective. If it's a family of 5 or less - just stick with a normal estate, pref turbocharged.

| BRISKODA Staff | Will have 2 sprogs, 1 present and 1 on the way...which aren't really the issue. It's when SWMBO relatives come to visit. One kiddy and 2 relatives in the back of Octy....no problem. 2 kiddy chairs and 2 relatives ain't going to go...trust me on this. I suppose we could use 2 cars just for when the relatives are over but one would be better. That's why I reckoned a midi-MPV would be fine....small enough for just 4 of us and big enough for 6/7. I could always borrow the Old Man's Sharan.......

| Multipla? The 1.9 JTD is an excellent engine and seats 6 easy on their own seats with realistic luggage space. There is a boring facelift out soon so you could get a nice discount on the current (and better looking IMHO) one. ![]() |

| I had a Galaxy when they first came out and it was a fantastic car. Too big for every day but heaven on trips - the kids loved it. Only problem is with all 7 seats in there's virtually no luggage space. Wasn't a problem for us but it is a bit of an "either/or" situation. As someone else said, they last well, too. It went back after 3 happy years but I fancied a change - the V6 Mondeo came next Mwahahahaha ..... |
