This crops up from time to time - always good food for discussion.

1971 Ford Cortina MkII 1600 Super. Ran very well for about a year and was sold on, probably in better nick (certainly mechanically) than when bought.

Fiat Panda 1000CL.
Ran for 3 years and 30k miles on top of the 30k it had when I bought it , and it was pretty much wrecked by that point. Still , I got £300 trade in for it so I was pleased at the time.

What a sh*t box that was LOL
Managed to snap 2 UJ joints on the drive shaft and rip the side of the gearbox off, all whilst trying to impress the ladies

Little white Fiat 126 Bis,( 91 H reg ) Great little car, shame gearbox went on it. I could park it anywhere, it was fun watching people give you weird looks when i put some shopping into where they thought the engine should be
I still have it, for sale if anybody is interested.

1961 Ford Anglia 105E, primrose yellow, white roof, covered it in stickers..Castrol GTX, Liverpool FC, Sir Roger Hunt, etc., mainly to cover the rust. Tinted the windows blue with vile smelling liquid in a spray can.
Got nicked many times in it.

1989 F-Reg Pug 405.... looked good, but thats about as positive as I can be about it! I sold it on to a guy, and he had it 2 months when it spontaneously combusted in his driveway!

Oops!

blimey you really are old aren't ya!!!
mine was a 1988 E mk2 fiesta 1.0 popular plus in a sky blue, it got spun on the a 40 at approx 60mph, not my fault, no honestly. wish i had fixed it rather than flogged it, i thought it was an omen, turned out it was a lesson that taught me never to buy a metro again!

My first one I owned was the first Fabia I destroyed (after 30 months, not one though )

Although during my parent's divorce my Dad transferred ownership of the TD ZX I had driven around a bit, so that could "technically" be my first car.

Bengie? You say you span a fiesta, which taught you never to buy a metro again? I like the lesson a lot, but just a little confused by the methodology.

A Black F plate VW Polo 1.05l (1049cc)
It failed it's MOT every time, the drivers seat collapsed once (the metal supports failed) Ihad to jerry rig fromt speakers into the door pockets as it was the only place to fit them and it used to just die out from time to time only to restart 2 mins later (once was in the Dartford tunnel at 00.20 on christmas day).

But it was my first car and I looked after it. I had it for 3 years and gave it to my brother when I brought my first Fabia. He had it for a month before a lorrie pulled out in front of him and wrote it off. I was not happy, but at least my brother was not hurt.

A 1978 Alfasud 5M (AKA 'Flying Biscuit Tin'). Tried to chop a tree down with it after 10 days. Lovely little thing - real seat-of-the-pants driving feel to it. Rusted away to nothing in 6 years.
