Question Why is "Speed" film rated 15

Bought "Speed" dvd over the web to watch with the familly, but didn't look at the certificate until I opened it today, to find it was a 15! Now, I saw the film on TV many years ago but I'm sure it was shown at about 8pm and was just a succession of fast moving chases on the bus, etc, in other words, good fun (but not as much fun as the Freeway scene on Matrix 2 ).

So.......why is it a 15? I suppose I could watch it in private first but would rather share the experience with the family. Surely there ain't any rude bits?

Anybody watched it recently?

it'll be due to the violence and scenes of danger. nothing i'd worry about showing to any kid really. just things blowing up.

if in doubt read the box next to the rating and it will tell you why

Must be due to the "we'd better base this relationship on sex" comment at the very very end.

Although there are some elements in it, which might be a little dodgy for a 12 year old.

Re: Why is "Speed" film rated 15

From the bbfc website:

15 Category Symbol

No-one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video or DVD.

Theme
No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate to 15 year olds.

Language
There may be frequent use of strong language (eg ‘****’). But the strongest terms (eg ‘****’) will be acceptable only where justified by the context. Continued aggressive use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.

Nudity
Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.

Sex
Sexual activity may be portrayed but without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour.

Violence
Violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. Scenes of sexual violence must be discreet and brief.

Imitable techniques
Dangerous techniques (eg combat techniques, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on imitable detail. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Horror
Strong threat and menace are permitted. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.

Drugs
Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse.
