| Worst Book to Film Adaption? The best book thread gave me an idea. What is, in your opinion, the worst book to film adaption? For me it was Rising Sun. Lot of potential with the cast just terrible reworking of the book. |

| Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? I saw trailers for it but never actually saw a cinema showing it. I kept and eye out as I agree, Timeline is a great book. |

| Briskodian | Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? If I may, I think all film adaptations are good. To suggest that we are all sitting at home having read all the books that films are based on is a little unlikely of course. On the one hand, one can relish the nuances from a book, but to enjoy sumptuous landscape vistas, costumery and action sequences, together with memorable acting means to me that I'd have to pass on any question which asks the "worst". I'd have to start at "the best" (there are so many good ones) and go from there. I could be gone for some time... Regards Mo |

Another Michael Crichton one would be the follow up to Jurassic Park. | |

| Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? Has to be Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard. Book was a good read. Film was pants & bombed, as it deserved. nearly bankrupted John Travolta if remember correctly. . |

| Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? Haven't seen the Dune film but anything adapted from that book would be a disappointment - sadly so were the sequels Frank Herbert and his son wrote to cash in on the legend that was Dune. LOTR's fairly disappointing, although still very good films. The Hornblower mini TV epics were particularly annoying (yes I know they're not films) |

| Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? I thought Captain Correli's Mandolin was an excellent book, but add Nicholas Cage and some terrible acting, and it turns into a steaming pile of pungent manure! |

| Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? I just finished CCM a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed the film too, but can't remember now how close or otherwise the adaptation was. Louis de B is certainly a good writer - so nice to read a book written in proper English ![]() |

| Re: Worst Book to Film Adaption? I'm going Potter again. The first two were OK. I thought Prisoner of Azkaban was dire. Goblet of Fire was slightly better, but as the books get longer the films just can't do them justice. |
