Re: Your top five Hubble pictures.

IMO its the deep field one (third one down) that although not visually stunning is a reminder that we are so insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

(did you just see the documentary on Nat Geo then?)

Funnily enough, no.

Here's an awesome YouTube thread on the Deep Space Field.

Re: Your top five Hubble pictures.

i find it funny that people think we are alone in the universe when we are merely a speck of sand on a very long beach

Re: Your top five Hubble pictures.

Alone in our universe, yes - probably not alone in space no, but we are sufficiently alone that no one will ever be able to reach another planet that sustains life and equally, other life will ever reach us.

Re: Your top five Hubble pictures.

and how on earth can you tell that?

no one can tell that.

quote scientists all you want but on extra terrestrial life they don't know **** and always make the assumptions about what is/isn't possible on us.

Given some of the enviroments on earth that do sustain life I would guess that life most certainly exists beyond earth. Be that species an advance or retarded to us, it doesn't really matter, they haven't decided to find us or be found by us either

exactly, if life can survive at the very bottom of the deepest ocean or at the top of the highest mountain let alone the very hottest or coldest place, all of these places a human can't survive then why not on another planet?

Re: Your top five Hubble pictures.

Interestingly if they find evidence of previous life, however basic, on Mars
then I'd say the odds are that it's teeming with life out there.
Chances are if there is a species that has reached a level of technological
sophistication, without destroying itself, to cross vast distances of space,
would they be likely to want to meet us.
