Canon EOS 400D battery packs

Hello,

I'm looking into getting a second battery pack for are EOS 400D. Now a Canon NB-2LH 720mAh Lithium Ion Battery costs £45 from jessops. Looking on ebay you can get none oem one with 2000mAh capacity for £4.

Anyone got any experience of the mega cheap non oem batteries? Can they harm the camera or charger? Is the oem charger capable of charging the non oem 2000mAh bettery pack?

Re: Canon EOS 400D battery packs

Not specifically for your EOS , but I've bought ebay cheapo batteries for a few cameras and they have all been just fine.

A fraction of the price and usually a higher capacity

I bought a genuine 2nd battery for my 350, I just wouldn't chance it personally. There is a half-way house though, with an 'equivalent' battery, but from a reputable manufacturer, with a 5yr warranty and half the price of the OEM Canon:

Re: Canon EOS 400D battery packs

I've got a couple of NB2-LH copies that I got from 7dayshop.com, and one that I got free from the Hong Kong supplier when I bought my 400D from . I use these batteries in both my Powershot S70 and my 400D. I've seen no real difference in capacity or any other issues.

Re: Canon EOS 400D battery packs

I got 2x2000mAh ones from the US for about £7.50 all in. The best my tame battery man could do was a 500mAh one for a tenner. At that rate, even if they turn out not to have the capacity they're advertised at (and they certainly seem to last well so far), I can afford to buy so many replacements, I don't care. I'd be very surprised if they could do any damage to the camera - battery voltage is determined by the chemistry, rather than anything else. Nature is reliable in that respect.

Re: Canon EOS 400D battery packs

I've also bought and used the ebay ones - they are just as good performance and life as the oe battery, so go for it
