| Re: Looking for constructive crit on my photography I think the photos are great I guess it's all about your confidence in doing wedding photos as your not going to get another chance if things go wrong! I suppose it all about building a portfolio so perspective customers can view your work and make that all important decision. Good luck and I'm sure you will get loads of work

| Briskodian | Re: Looking for constructive crit on my photography Hi Stuart Whilst your pics were nice to view IMHO they appeared no more than average to me and seemed to lack imagination or flair, and to me look like they could have been produced on a compact digital camera. TBH if they were my wedding photo's I'd have been disappointed. I not trying to be harsh or insulting, just trying to be honest. For home stuff I think they're fine, or better than fine, but to sell, IMO your not quite there yet. As I'm not a photographer I can't indicate where to improve, but as joe public looking at the pics and having looking at say 'Scuffs' pics, I think there is quite a significant difference. | Re: Looking for constructive crit on my photography Cheers, just what i was looking for. I know i need to improve, its just figuring out how! I know the technical side to it, its just getting the shots to look awesome thats stumping me! However scuffs equipment is a bit more top end than mine, concidering one of his lenses is £4500 alone eeek

Firstly, I think that you are very brave, asking for critique. I have been sitting on the fence watching this thread, deciding whether to reply or not. I have decided to risk your wrath and be honest with you, in the hope that you will continue to improve and learn from your mistakes. My observations are just that, they are not intended to be personal. I am afraid that the wedding shots could have been done a lot better. I have to admit that if I had supplied those to one of my past 40 weeding clients I have shot for, I would not be surprised if payment was refused. You state that you know the technical side - well I'm sorry but you do not appear to have grasped even the basics yet. I see wonky horizons, really naff colour balance and lighting, and camera shake in a lot of those shots. Your composition is very poor. There are some very unflattering shots shown due to expressions and camera angles. You do not need my expensive lenses, in fact I would make sure that you can use the ones you have before you start spending out and wasting your money. I am afraid that this is something I see all to often. Taking a picture is so easy today.... but just because you can buy a scalpel - that doesn't make you a surgeon. I admire your drive but please do not take money from people until you really know what you are doing. At present you are giving professional photographers a bad image(sic). Shoot some weddings with a pro as an assistant and learn. Proper techniques can be learnt. You do not need expensive kit. I feel really bad coming down on you like this, but someone needs to give you a kick up the A*$ and bring you down to earth. Do not give up, enjoy and learn. Come back to this thread in a years time and tell me that I was right. then show some stunning shots to rub my nose in it. Good luck

There are many 'amateur' photographers out there who can put the pros to shame. The main difference is that the guy getting paid for it, has to produce the goods, no mistakes, no excuses, and that is tough. I am glad that you are able to learn from it, that's my ethos as well. Hats off to you for laying yourself open, and accepting the comments in the way they were intended. I wish you well, and if there is anything I can help with in my own small way. Just ask.
