Some local wildlife

An American robin in my back garden, a Great Horned Owl in my back garden and a Black Bear on the roadside near Lake Louise.

Re: Some local wildlife

Very cool!
Was the bear on a super-long zoom lens?

Re: Some local wildlife

yes! i'm brave but not stupid a 300mm lens and a sensible distance from an animal that can run at 35mph and weigh 400kg

Re: Some local wildlife

it is, thats the third Black Bear i've seen in the wild so far all from a safe distance. We were on our way back from a camping trip in Lake Louise which is known as a high Bear traffic area, the campsite is surrounded by an electric fence so they can't get in! It helps you sleep better i tell thee

Re: Some local wildlife

When we stayed in Banff it was great watching the wildlife walking down the main street and passed our hotel.

I remember lounging in the SPA watching a couple of ELK walking down the street and jumping into peoples gardens, I guess they were looking for food.

Couldn't believe what we saw on their bins

Re: Some local wildlife

Lake Louise & Banff?

There's an organised motorcycle tour I'm looking at doing for 2/3 weeks in the summer of 09 or 10, that goes from Whistler to Banff via Lake Louise (does that sound right?).

Am a big wildlife and wilderness fan so these pics give me an added incentive to make sure it happens.

I understand it's a beautiful part of the world?

Re: Some local wildlife

The warning signs reminded me of this sign on the beach near Cairns - the stuff in the diamonds that can kill you if you swim

That sounds like a great trip (and yes you are right!) which will take you thru' some fantastic scenery and a couple of Canada's best National Parks. Whistler is well known for Bears wandering around the communities at night so keep a sharp eye!
Banff National Park is a stunning part of the world, me and SWMBO try to get out there most weekends. If you want to see more search Banff on Yahoo (or Google) Images and see what happens!

That's nothing...........I was walking through Northampton town centre yesterday and was shocked by the amount of wild moose on the loose

Most looked like they'd recently eaten...... a lot
