Re: OMG! It Begins!

right, i've finally got moving on the big brake conversion

here's the hub after a made a spacer ring for the brake disc

the outside diameter is 65mm which allows me to fit the corrado g60 280mm discs to the skoda hub

Re: OMG! It Begins!

here's a quick pic to demonstrate the difference in size between the standard felicia disc and the 280mm disc

also standard disc is solid, and the 280mm discs is vented

not anymore no, i popped in to see an ex-collegue of mine today and he let me use a lathe in his workshop for a few minutes ...

next step is to press it all together and fit the disc so i can measure it up for the caliper brackets

Re: OMG! It Begins!

nice one they look soo much bigger

question,

Will you still have ABS (i dont think the corrado has ABS ) by changing the disks, or will you be leaving the sensor disk?

Re: OMG! It Begins!

the abs sensor is actually on the back of the hub on the felicia so it would indeed be possible to retain the abs. but i'm going without abs on mine.... infact one of my hubs is from an abd model on one isn't

Re: OMG! It Begins!

nice one tom. isn't to much work really is it, just turn the spacer, and have a caliper mount laser cut.

unfortunately it isn't quite as easy as that otherwise everybody would be doing it...

the corrado discs have a different offset, and they are thicker, plus you cant just bolt up the caliper because the carriers wont fit..

yeah i was thinking that, or possibly milling one from a billet.... i wonder if there's anybody local that will laser cut some brackets for me from an engineering drawing

Re: OMG! It Begins!

it needs to be 17.6mm thick... you may notice that in the top is a dimension marked 129mm... these are two holes drilled in the top for the radial mounting calipers. all the holes are 8.5mm diameter which is the tapping size for a standard M10 thread....

if anybody on here can assist me in manufacturing these (from a supplied dxf file or whatever format you want) from aluminium please let me know

Re: OMG! It Begins!

18mm thick is getting pretty thick for most laser cutting, and plasma will give a pretty crappy edge finish. I would guess that machining from block would be the best option. You will need to machine all 4 holes anyway.

Good thread though, keep it up.

Oh, I can direct you to a free copy of Pro/Engineer solid modeling, if you fancy an upgrade from that 2D stuff

Great thread....keep it up.

Re: OMG! It Begins!

tbh, lazer cutting wasn't what i was really expecting i was thinking more of milling this from a piece of plate

Cad is awesome. It simply needs the user to draw with 3 co-ordinates instead of 2. Come on Tom, its not that difficult!
