Lightbulb Advanced drivers - advanced tasters....

Calling all advanced tutors / observers / drivers

I'm sure there are a few advanced drivers on here, I know a few, but a majority aren't. Looking at the way RoSPA and IAM (amongst others) are structured, you are expected to pay over a sum of cash to them prior to commencing training, but you aren't sure what you are going to get, whether you will like it, whether it would be of any benefit to you....

What I'm suggesting (and I'll be first to put my name down for it) is for those of us who are IAM, RoSPA, HPC, Club Driving, DIAmond etc qualified, to offer tasters to those who have an interest in learning more.

Not sure if there'd be much interest, but I'm prepared to spend time with anyone who wants it to talk about what is involved, go for a drive give a demo etc

Couple of points before you take me (or anyone else mug / kind enough to offer) out:

1. No charge (although I do like jam donuts and black coffee )
2. You are responsible if you crash your car, I am but a passenger
3. Briskoda aren't responsible for anything at all

Right, any takers? I'm based NE Derbyshire but will travel within a reasonable distance......

Re: Advanced drivers - advanced tasters....

Happy to put myself forward for this too. Based in north Hants, but happy to travel a reasonable distance (Wilts, Berks, South Hants) if someone is desperate enough to drive with me I've done RoSPA and HPC as well as undertaking several days of road and track tuition.

A great idea - and I for one would be very interested (as long as I can find a multi-pack of jam donuts).

I'd be interested in participating in a taster, it is surprisingly hard to get an assessment prior to committing to the course(s)...

Thing is, unless you are an ADI you are not allowed to charge. People do it for free

I've done the 1 day roadcraft course, and although I learned a lot, I don't consider myself to be a tutor of any kind. However, having the book I do try and brush up on the literature, and could try and pass this on to others FOC.

Based in Devon. Liable to the occasional inversion.

I'm in Wiltshire. Only recently passed my RoSPA test, but the examiner did say I should consider tutoring. Haven't done any of that yet, but happy to pass on what I can.

I'm glad Chris thought it'd be a good idea ....

Still to go for my IAM test but willing to give pointers in oxon. Also anyone thinking of doing it, why not go along to a IAM meet? Uf you turn up and tell them you are interested but would like to see more before you part with your money they will be more than happy to give you a talk and show you the ropes before pursuading you to part with that cash

Re: Advanced drivers - advanced tasters....

Not wishing to be elitist, but what the hell.....

An analogy; would you want your doctor to be someone who has taken and passed exams or someone who has read a book?

Would you want to jet off on your holidays with someone who has started learning to fly?

Much as I appreciate people trying to help (and I really do) it was the intention of this thread for people who have taken and passed some form of advanced driver training to offer to help others out who are tempted to try it but don't know where to start or can't find groups who can fit them in.

I know I'm probably laying myself wide open to the same criticisms from the ADIs on the board......

just because we're qualified to do this, and can consiquently charge for it, (and have passed all the relevant tests to prove our ability) doesn't mean you can't help people although remember I have seen you drive Jon! lol..

on a serious note though, any driver education that can help people is worthwhile, I've chatted to Jon, and know his knowledge can genuinly help a "normal" driver to improve, as long as there's no 'law breaking' with a charge involved, then this can only be a good thing

I think Dave is referring more to the acceptance of money than the quality of the teach ... sorry coaching! It's fine to sit alongside someone and comment on what you are seeing them doing, but you need to be a qualified ADI before you can charge someone money for doing it.

I guess it's to ensure that a standard of teaching is maintained. Just a shame that the DSA do not recognise "advanced" driving tutors unless they have passed an ADI qualifying them to teach at DSA-level.
