| The anti-knock sensors on the engine should prevent detonation. My car was remapped by Jabba for 98RON Optimax but I usually fill up with 97RON BP Ultimate or even 95 RON. I seem to recall that Optimax is well-known for being variable in quality so there is no guarantee that what you fill up with is actually 98RON.

| Site Sponsor | Yeah, I did a bit of testing in my own car over a few different tankfulls using optimax, ultimate, and cool blue. Suffice to say cool blue was loads, loads better than any regular fuel but at a cost. I also tried some full on RFT but that was just stupid money. I found that optimax was tending to pull back a couple of degrees more on average than ultimate, however I fill up at larger, regularly replenished Shell stations. If you've got a small unused optimax supply (it can 'go off') then you'd probably find that ultimate is more consistant. Tbh without datalogging facilities, on the road I find there's not a massive amount of difference between ultimate and optimax. Having said that I always use optimax (I've a shell station close to home) unless I'm stuck. |
