Wowsers! You didn't claim your prize because you didn't know if it was any good?

Can I buy it off you please??

lol

I'd have had it either way and if it was crap (which it's not) I'd have had my ECU re-flashed with the stock map!... Simple.

Anyway, get it on mate... It's free after all!

I'd rather find one that sourced (or helped to source) insurance for their remapees ...

Adrian Flux Insurance
Greenlight Insurance
Liverpool Victoria Insurance

(They all specialise in insuring remapped (and generally tinkered-with) vehicles).

Adrian Flux charged me an additional £63 on my policy to cover Nitrous Oxide!

(I take it that's what you meant by insurance for remaps?)

As for tuners who offer "warranty" IIRC superchips offer one. which is 12months or 30000 miles.. (no doubt theres lots of get out clauses) but tbh, superchips are a bit ****e really. and youll be lucky if you get any more power at all... let alone useable power.

So, if you call out a plumber to install a new boiler, do you expect him to insure your home contents for accidental damage?

As has been said many times, if you can't stomach the "risks", then don't modify the car

For any warranty scheme to be worth the paper it's written on, it would need manufacturer backing.
I don't see VAG in the UK doing this any time before hell freezes over.

In a nutshell. All the hand wringing is by the by.

...and don't even get me started on the risks of a chipped toaster

But seriously (and perhaps I would like to see that from a plumber if his work needed to be declared on the insurance for it to be valid) it'd be a nice thing to have some kind of relationship between the big chippers and one or two insurance companies ... I think it'd be a very worthwhile endeavour ...

Yup, I did sell it (thread here).

Oh, Colin, you were just too darn slow to respond, still gloating over your 322mm front setup

Mobtob, when we both attend to a meet, I'd be more than interested to have a passenger ride if that's ok. Just to compare. Still taking notes, you see

no, of course not. but i would expect him to cover the parts and labour with at least a 12 month warranty and to have indemnity insurance so that if any major catastrophe occurred which was due to his ****e handywork he would cough up for the damage through his insurers (normal practice).

as for a previous post (sorry can't remember who), that tuners can't be held responsible for those who then go on and thrash their cars, surely thats what the VAG warranty covers. they don't know who is thrashing their car from cold etc and yet they still cover the engine against mechanical failure.

the reason they can do this is they have left that 'safety margin' which accounts for crap owners messing around and they never seem to breach the cars limits.

if i were to have a remap, then i would at least like to try it out to its full potential occasionally and i would like to know that if i used all the power and torque i'd paid for, i wasn't gonna knack me engine (or if i did, then it would be covered under an indemnity/warranty scheme).

i repeat -if it is that safe , then no tuner would ever pay out on a claim and therefore it would cost them nowt. they could use VAG com as the manufacturers do to find the reason for a fault and if that was due to someone messing with boost which had no prior agreement then they wouldn't be liable.

would like to hear from a tuner on this one as to why not

Do you think anyone would admit that they screwed their car up and not try to blame the third party and claim on the third party warranty?

To be honest, there is more chance of seeing fairies at the bottom of my garden.

dont get rid of them toadstools just yet!

nah, to be honest , i agree, i can't see it happening either. just don't know why with modern engines and VAG com and stuff there wouldn't be enough proof of blame and therefore a fairly straightforward case for liability.

i'm not expecting any change in policy - its just a shame they don't make it an easier pill to swallow for joe average public like me.

And with the increase of the "blame culture" we are seeing...it wont get any easier to get away with it.
(in respect of third party warranties etc)
