yes it melted the alternator fuse, which was stupidly replaced by the mechanic with a 50 amp fuse his reason for not putting a 110 amp as he should have back in?...............

"because the book said it was a 50 amp"

now forgive me if i am wrong but aren't mechanics meant to be fully trained before they go touching peoples cars, if it was something major maybe they would have to look it up in a book but surely they should at least know what fuses go where?

i am soooo sick of trying to figure this one out its unbelievable, have spent hours on the net and all i keep finding are more things that could be wrong, spent hours going back and forth from garages and all i get from them is "he did it" "he did it" playground antics between them all

Given your financial position with the car, if there is even the slightest chance that the MAF is suspect then either you'll be buying one yourself or you could relent and get them to swap it out. As I said it should be FOC.
how am i meant to get the dealer to suspect the maf though? they have told me they havent got a clue whats wrong and the engine isnt showing anything wrong as it drives fine, thats the weirdest thing though it does drive fine, there is no sign of anything wrong with it whatsoever

I am sure there was a known problem with the connectors and a lead melting on Octavia I A4 cars. I can't seem to find anything at the moment but pretty sure there is a free modification.

The 'system to lean' code is an indication in itself...

A faulty MAF will tend to under-read the airflow, so the ECU is being told there's less air entering the engine then there actually is and the ECU under fuels as a result thus the car running lean. How does the car run with the MAF sensor unplugged? When a MAF deteriorates the ECU will adapt as much as it can, if the ECU is reset then (depending on the state of the MAF) it is often out of the boundries of the adaptation channels (so to speak) and thus the car starts running eratically, not idling smoothly, not revving through, etc. as it can no longer account for the fault by adapting.

If it were my car the first port of call would be putting a new MAF on there, if you've got an after market filter or induction kit I'd probably take that off as well. Or at the very least make sure it's secure and isn't oiled. I'd also replace all the vacuum hose on there with new silicone hose and clips (very cheap to do) as these have a tendancy to soldify and split. I think the issue is that the car is out of warranty and it's not anyones fault as such, but anyone you take it too will want paying for their time.

I hope this helps.

revokev, one question, i have been told that before a free trial is put on any car the car should have a diagnostic check run on it beforehand, because if there is any fault codes then they will not put it on your car? is this true?

That is true, however if a fault is within the ECU that won't effect the performance or tuning then they would still flash the car. The other thing to be aware of is that a high percentage of faults with a car wouldn't pull up a fault code within the ECU.

My problem is that the car was never checked for any fault codes in the first place, he just flashed it, so he therefore did not abide by revo's rules now did he?

Re: Revo 5 Hour remap problems anyone else had any, help :(

I wasn't there so I can't say... however I know they have a portable VAG COM lead and it's common practice for them to check the control module for codes.
I wouldn't imagine the codes you've got in your ECU were there then anyway... but if you believe they didn't check for codes then it's something to speak to them about.
I don't imagine there were any codes there at the time that would have indicated to the issues you're having anyway, if indeed the MAF sensor is faulty the lean code would have come up after the ECU was reset and the car had been driven.

Like I've said above, all new parts are still covered by a 12 month warranty.

It may pi$$ you off a little to go back to the dealers but several people are indicating try changing the MAF.

It may just mean you can have the car fixed and keep it.

Re: Revo 5 Hour remap problems anyone else had any, help :(

so the engine management light could be caused by the maf sensor, that i can understand

but before i go fighting the cars cause again at halifax what should i say about the squealing, or should i drive about until the squealing happens again then take it in?

we have to get this sorted, and again as i have said before, thankyou to all who have helped, although my posts may have been a little on the stressed side sometimes i am sure you can understand why i am like this

im just gonna at some of the comments on this post,a way to tell if the maf is to blame is if the traction control wont switch off we had a similar problem with a golf a couple of years ago but slightly different codes it flew with the maf disconnected but wouldnt play ball with it connected it turned out to be the actuator was adjusted incorrectly and producing too much boost (anyway i digress) the problems with the revo probably arent the fault of the software but the car should have been fault coded first as there are normally a few problems with most 20vt's a mate has his car mapped at gti international a few years back and they didnt fault code it either (i must admit i was a bit more naive about remapping back then) i hope that awesome sort the car out there are a few issues with those engines and most skoda dealers arent always aware of them!

Ok rant over......

Re: Revo 5 Hour remap problems anyone else had any, help :(

Oh my god i am sorry i didn't know he had put that last night i was out at a party, he has only just told me now,

anyway after much deliberation we took a loss on the car and got a different car, the reason for chris's big grinning face is that he is now the proud owner of a subaru impreza wrx uk 300 (number 132/300) i will post a pic up another day i am shattered,

with regards to the octavia, as you all know we loved that car, in the 18 months we had it we put a hell of a lot of money into it and we are gutted to see it go but we just couldnt cope with being passed back and forth and nobody telling us what it was, in the end when it finally did go there was nothing wrong with the actual running of the car, it drove as if all was well, the fault when it went was it was just throwing random fault codes up constantly, the final time we looked there were 2 pages of codes

so unfortunately we are no longer a octy owner we are now a scooby owner
