| 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas My inlaws will be celebrating their Ruby wedding anniversary in a week or so and so I've been searching for something relevant as a gift. I've had a look on some gift sites but they seem a little tacky. I'm lost for ideas apart from.... Champagne and chocs A family party A wedding photo of them in a nice frame I can't think of anything else but the clock is ticking. We have access to their house at the moment as they left for a holiday yesterday so could have a rummage for old photos etc. Any ideas would be much appreciated ![]()

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas I have the same problem (although it's my parents who are married 40 years in December). I found a website who creates a newspaper with some personalised articles on the couple, which I thought was a nice idea. |

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas Framed copy of wedding day front page of inlaw's local newspaper (if the paper still exists or can be found at the local library, that is)? Or combine this with Quinten's idea - some personalised articles and some "genuine" front page stories? |

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas I dunno if its what you'd be looking for but those Digital Picture Frames are quite cool. Put loads of pictures from down through the years onto it (you could scan them). Especially if a family party as everyone will huddle around for a look through memory lane ![]()

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas Family Party + if you've got MS Publisher or similar then you can do your own humourous version of Newspaper (albeit probably only on A4 - but you can print front and back if you use a stiffish card). I did a foldout version for a friend's 60th last year and it went down very well.

| Briskodian | Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas Hi Pixi. Perhaps go with the occasion, meaning that personal gifts are different from those to be opened in front of a room full of people. Your inlaws might recognise that cranberry glass (ruby coloured) is collectible, if you can buy any locally or from the Net without breaking the bank. For more personal gifts, perhaps Mr Pixi could take the lead? I'd probs do daft thing like knit hot water bottle cover and matching bedsocks to represent togetherness after 40 years. I always do something daft as anyone can buy a fancy present from a shop. Hate that and love pressies that people have made just for me Otherwise it's just another item crossed off the "to do" list.Best Mo |

| Briskodian | Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas Just remembered, isn't there something called Ruby Port? Just popped into my brain so could be wrong. Also thinking of that latest hit single by the Kaiser Chiefs, "Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby", cos I'm sure the inlaws are still young at heart ![]() Mo |

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas Family party with a theme - gangsters and dolls or summat. Kidnap the old photos and blow them up to poster size, you can do that with a decent computer printer and some sellotape, then hang them around the venue. Lots of Pimms, some egg sarnies, and some gramophone records from the popular hit parade and you're sorted! |

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas We usually do the blowing up of pictures and hanging them around the venue so that would be a part of having a party if we went down that route. As for the Pimms, I don't think they will let me bring any anymore I'm liking the idea of a party but would need to move fast and recruit other family members that a best at playing pranks etc. Oh yes, and I know 40 years sounds a lot but they're not that old that they listen to a bleedin gramaphone Thanks for the ideas so far ![]()

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas I like that idea a lot, thanks It's not too late, well it's today to be precise but they are not back from holiday for another ten days or so. I have run the idea of a get together by my auntie in law and she is up for that so it's a case of finer details now I think.

| Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas First of all, well done to them for making it to 40 years! We celebrated 25 last week ourselves. Part of me is tempted to suggest a £40 Ann Summers voucher, and watch their faces when they open it! If they're gardeners, there is a red rose called "Ruby Wedding" -you could buy one or two trees for them. I'd just suggest getting together as much family as possible, get loads of photos, then put together an album with all the best pictures, with messages from everyone. Bloomin' hard work, but we did this recently for some relatives who hit 50 years, and they loved it. Phil |

| Briskodian | Re: 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary ideas Just a thought, but for a photo album, could make a cover from ruby-coloured satin (or heavy silk or even polyester) (wouldn't need much, about 0.5 metre). Also some decent ribbon which could edge each page (stuck down with glue that dries clear, from haberdashery departments). ![]() Mo |
